Picked up the new MX-5

Postby CoachOz » Sat Nov 02, 2013 6:00 pm

Just drove home the long way to Bonny Hills from Sydney in my new (2006) NC. Had to drive Galston Gorge, the Old Pacific Highway to Gosford and Wooton Way over Buledelah Mountain.

The new car has a few goodies:
Tein Super Street coilovers
Good-win Racing Roadster Sport 2 exhaust
Laile Beatrush front and rear strut and under body braces
Adjustable sway bar
K & N Filter

And a nice number plate MXS00M came with the car

Took one pic on the way - more later

Taking a stab in the dark here because of your location.

Did you use to own a NB?

Good to see you took the 'fun' route home, especially through Wooton Way

Some nice existing mods already done to the car, which is good to see.

The NB went to Queensland last weekend - to the first person who came to look. :?

Forgot to mention - also has slotted front rotors.

The mods are a real bonus, though I do need to find a way to get the low frequency drone out of the exhaust

I think I met you at Mania about 1.5 years ago (unless that was someone else from Bonny Hills).

My Mrs family is from there.

Not me as my first visit to mania was yesterday. I'm not aware of any other 5's at Bonny's

This is a great part of the world to live in and our Mid North Coast Club chapter is going well

Re; the exhaust drone, try a blanket on the boot floor, there are some drop in baffles available, if they are not fitted already the previous owner may still have them and if not someone local is sure to have some that you could try.
Greg.
The car looks great and it has a boot spoiler as well:).
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

The baffles are in but the drone is still there. I discussed this with Brian Goodwin and he suggested one of his glass baffle inserts to create an asymmetric exhaust. So I'll give that a try as well as the blanket idea. - Thanks

Have you looked on the big forum? Lots of threads there about mufflers ...

To be really radical, you could even try Goodwin's forum

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

I've had a look - seems like some like the deep base sound, but Goodwin seems to have tackled the problem in the Roadster Sport 3 using 2 inch rather than 2.5 inch pipe and some other changes as well. I've asked Brian if getting smaller diameter pipes will solve the problem and still waiting for the answer (only asked him this arvo). Also it seems like the Q is the "quiet" version of his mufflers, which is not much use when I have the RS :|

Took them out and the booming became even worse, but better with one baffle rather than two
