So, you're positive that you have fuel in the cylinders and you have spark actually in the plugs. That probably means that the spark is not happening at the right time or the valves are not opening at the right time.
1. Take the oil filer cap off and make sure the cams are turning. Just pulling the car forward in 4th for a foot or two while you look will be good enough.
2. Remove all the plugs, connect a timing light to the number one lead, spin it over and see where the timing is.

If you use a newer style powered timing light you'll need to pull power from the battery to run it. The diagnostic port doesn't get power during cranking.

Clip it straight to the alternator power.

Re: car wont start! please help!!!!!
The NA8 had a blue plug behind the left headlight area with a constant 12 volt power source. NA6 the same?
If it's getting spark and fuel then it's starting to look like a broken cam belt or timing completely out of whack.

This is the one I was talking about. It's not constant power. Power is cut to this circuit during cranking.

From memory there's a B+ pin in the diagnostic port that's a straight feed from the battery

I haven't fitted a CAS to an NA6 for a long time. Does anyone know if it's at all possible to get the CAS 180 deg out when sliding it onto the end of the cam?

I don't think it can be fitted 180 degree out. I think it can only go on one way.

I had this problem when I swapped engines a few years back. On an NA8, its posible to install the cas 150deg out if you put it in upside down :/ . Take a photo of the cas sensor and post it up.
