Hi mxers some one in a recent forum said a 1600 Eunos NA had more power than the 1800 sold here. What have you guys heard? 8)

I read that on a Gumtree post recently. Short answer, they're full of it.

Some people think the jdm eunos has better power (it doesn't) and that gets confused with all na6's having more power.

Some people get caught up in the na6 engine being better and more free revving than the na8.
I have both cars, and the difference is so negligible it's a silly thing to worry about.

Maybe they got confused "feeligns" between the 4.3 diff in the JDM na6 vs a na8 wth 4.1?

Maybe they are just full of it.

I'd wager the latter.

The difference is negligible, the 1.6 appears 'revier' because it's power band is a little lacking in the midrange, so it drives better up top.
NOT better than the 1.8's top end, just better at the top end than in the mid range.

This is kind of like enjoying driving an ITB build more, even though its far slower than a similar priced turbo build. Neither answer is right, drive what you prefer, but honestly, the performance difference is so little for a stock car it makes no difference.

Would I pay more for a 1.8L car?

.... yeah a few hundred bucks I guess.

I didn't mean it like that.

I had an interesting talk the other day.

Basically it comes down to budget... under 5k.. turbo. 5-10k.... probably ITB build..10k plus? Its a real toss up... probably tubo honda swap.

This is for a daily driver/weekend warrior.

I have an '89 NA - it leaves my NB for dead thru the gears and yet the NB is no 'slowcoach'

Then again, it was built by Mazdaspeed and the engine was refreshed 2 years ago by Automotive Plus in Brisbane - it easily revs to 7000rpm, there are no 'dips' in the powerband

On a recent run up 'Bellthorpe Range' north of Brisbane, indeed very steep, it happily held 7000rpm in 2nd and then again in 3rd but then again it was being dríven by 'Pirate' who has sweated for over two years to get behind the wheel and let it loose!

Dare I say it, I honestly think it's quicker up thru the gears than my 86 :frown:

Not game to 'track' it as I know of no others like it in Australia

I can tell you converting a MX5 NA from auto to manual and keeping the auto ECU will reduce a NA6's power.

Haha - not this year. Still waiting to see how that build on k20a.org goes.
The sub frame kit will be useless for right hand drives though as the steering rack mounts are different to LHDs. V8 roadster confirmed this, and they sell a rhd specific sub frame.

Anyway... I have been thinking about it way too much...

See you Monday Shane - gates should be open around 7.00am if not earlier - I'll be there around that time or earlier!
