Postby Phynixzor » Fri Oct 25, 2013 10:24 pm

i dont know what type of style of gear stick this is nor what to do when buying a new gear knob cause they are threaded but mine is just a slide on.
what are the pros and cons of mine stick. or what can i do to make it fit gear knobs like skunks etc

To me it just looks like the insert from the aftermarket knob you have has separated, and simply needs to be removed from the gear stick shaft using a pair of multi grips or pliers.

From the photos it looks sorta like it's just a butchered bottom half of a standard lever. Then they've bored out a knob and rammed it onto the stub.

A whole stock NA8 lever looks like this:

If you want to fit normal aftermarket knobs, or even a standard one, then you'll need to replace the lever. They're cheap (< $20 2nd hand), easy to find and pretty easy to fit.

Australia's largest supplier of 2nd hand MX5 gear levers lives in Bossley Park too. :D Send a private message to boyracer if you need one.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I don't think my question warrant a new thread

Just wondering if my gear level is stock??? I just got a voodoo knob and it doesn't screw it (the lever is slightly larger)

looks stock, but somebody has threaded some sort of weird adapter thread on there.
The smaller section of thread looks stock sized.

try and take off the big threaded thing.

Also the smaller threads look a little damaged, it might be worth seeing if you can clean them up first (a die would be best, then maybe a thread chaser, and last would be to buy a nut with the same diameter/pitch and tighten it down, then remove)
