RWC issues

Im in the process of getting a roadworthy for my na8 to get it on the road and I'd like it to pass the first time.
So i'm just wondering what previous owners have been picked on for and how you fixed it.

At the moment Ive got dents in the frame rail and I was wondering if that would get picked on. Can I possibly just get omgpham's frame rail braces to cover them up.
I've also got bent pinch welds which im assuming will be another issue.

Frame rails are soft, you can straitened them out with a hammer and a block of wood. A hammer should straighten out the pinch welds too.

I have the omgpham braces and I had to panel beat the rails back to shape to get them on.

We cannot tell you what needs to be done to your car for a rwc when we have not seen it. Some rwc checkers will do a quick look at the car to give you a guide without charge. Windsreens are an item that can get knocked back and all lighting and mods need to be legal. No oil leaks either. A rwc checker will give you the check list on request. Remember that the wheels have to come off and check condition of brakes and also a brake test. Insofar as the rails are concerned you can just ask them if it is a concern. Also a first time knock back is no big deal if there is only minor items to rectify.

Depends on the individual RWC tester. In Victoria they've gotten much tougher (gone are the days of a 'phoneworthy' :lol:

), but you can still get a 'reasonable' RWC test if you know the mechanic and they know the car is for yourself, and you're not trying to sell it, and there are no glaring safety issues.

I had mine inspected first by a trusted oldschool family mechanic, and he told me that the rear brakes needed replacement, and the oil leak in the engine bay should be taken care of

I fixed those items and it passed the first time around. He even commented that it was a great little car. Not bad for a 20yo sports car with 230,000km

Realistically, apart from the obvious safety items (brakes, tyres, lights, suspension, seatbelts), the main problem areas would be things such as windscreen, oil leaks, rust, etc. Presenting the car in a nice, clean, cared for condition goes a long way too. Don't rock up in a dirty, poorly modified POS with rubbish throughout the interior. Just as you wouldn't wear trackies and runners to a job interview ;)

If you've got a trusted mechanic or someone who looks after your friends and family, get them to take a look first and get them to advise.

Replace your wiper blades. That is one of the most common pick ups as well as lights. Other than that it is just common sense. Not too low, not too loud, seat belts are functioning, no oil leaks, brakes are good, etc.

Person I bought my car off failed RW for oil drips (like a few drips overnight)
There was something else too but they didn't write any of it down, he just paid them to roadworthy the car, and fix any issue as they arose.
Is that normal?

I wasn't concerned with RWC though, he is a close family friend and an aviation engineer. Still interesting though.

I passed RWC first time. Thank god they cant fail you for sh*t paint jobs

isn't being a sight for sore eyes a precursor to failing a RWC? lol :mrgreen:

when my car went for an RWC checked, a couple of items came up and the previous owner just paid to get them replaced.
a) windshield, it was pitted and a little 'dull'
b) missing nut to hold the spare wheel
