Photo of SE turboback vs NB8A headers back

Postby 22Silver » Wed Oct 23, 2013 1:37 pm

Curious request, perhaps, but I am looking for a photo of a full SE turboback exhaust system, and an NB8A exhaust system either next to it, or in some way comparable.
Trying to figure out how much of this SE exhaust I can get to work in my NB8A, and at what point I need to fabricate.
Prefer not to destroy the NB8A exhaust system, incase this little experiment sucks.

Also, if anyone has any tips on figuring out which cat is less restrictive, N/A or SE (SE is the mazdaspeed etched muffler tip system, right), I would love you forever.

How many threads do you need to be told to do a search?

We have provided links already to comparison pics.

Get a new, high flow, cat.

I did read the links, but they didn't line the exhausts up, they were offset so it was really hard to see which bends/lengths were different.
Was just wondering if anyone had a photo that highlighted the actual difference. The poster of those photos took the photo under the impression that the systems were a direct swap, and as such lined the exhausts up in a way that made it look to be so.

Sorry about posting in the wrong section!

Note that the curved section after the cat and resonator but before the muffler, has been replaced with mandrel bent steel on that exhaust system

I read the thread the photo came from. The guy wasn't happy with the press bend just before the muffler so he cut it off and replaced it with a mandrel bent piece.
Maybe that's the before photo then, if it looks stock.

why would that make any difference? you know that the se muffler bolts up, many people have done it.
I really dont understand your obsession with a stock exhaust lol.

Well I already bolted the muffler up, and I keep eying the rest of it up, and it's very tempting, but I still have concerns. I guess I'll just go for broke and give it a shot.

If anyone is curious however, the SE muffler looks a bit dorky because the tip hangs a little low, aesthetically, relative to the bumper, but it sounds like evil killer robot farts.
Tiny little pops if you shift right near redline, and a bit more of an 'edge' to the overall sound, with more volume at WOT and at revs >4000rpm. It used to sound like an electric toothbrush at 6000rpm.

With city driving (shift at 5000 max, no flat footing WOT peddle stomping and overall smooth gentle acceleration) it sounds roughly the same as NB8A muffler.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

That's the bit!
It squeezes down to like, just under 2" at that bend in the last photo.
Thanks Okibi!
