Interior Overhaul!
Hey!
I just got myself a '99 NB in twilight blue. The car drives well and I'm in love with it.
But the interiors are in pretty bad shape. I was looking at re-doing almost all of it. BUT, I'm a total newbie when it comes to car. This is actually my first car.
I wanted to know what all should I be looking to replace and where can I source the parts? I intend to do all the work on my own.
Cheers!

Re: Interior Overhaul!
Wow pretty nice first car! Awesome!
Keep an eye out for someone race prep'ing an NB, that's probably the most economical way to do it all. Is the dash itself OK? It's the hardest bit to swap.
Be aware that the NB8A (98-00) and NB8B (late 00 onward) door cards are slightly different and can't be interchanged due to the position of the door lock. I tried to do this swap recently and found out the hard way!

Re: Interior Overhaul!
Thanks!
Thankfully, the dash is fine. The seats are in bad shape as well as the door trims and the centre console. Mostly looking to replace those along with the leather sleeve for the gear, gear knobs, hand brake bar, steering wheel etc.
Any place I can source this for cheap? Was thinking of using the Melbourne cup weekend to work on it.
Also, any advantages of racing seats if I'm not looking to use this for track purposes?
Will keep the difference for door trims in mind! What did you end up doing?

Race seats - More hold-ey, less comfortable.

Also race seats can be a pain to fit.
The standard seats have the seat belt stalk on a bracket off the seat rail, and that bracket can get in the way of fitting race seats to the rails.
So you either have to use aftermarket seat rails, and relocate the seat belt stalk, which is probably not legal,
or modify the existing seat belt mount of the standard rails to clear a race seat. I have heard that some people have just bent the bracket to get suitable clearance, but when I looked at mine, it seemed unlikely.

Re: Interior Overhaul!
Alright, so race seats are out of the equation. Thanks for that!
Good places or sites to get the other stuff? Any guides on installation? Also, I was looking at a guide to install the ignition button of an S2000 into the Miata. That seemed pretty interesting. Any idea where I can get that button?
Sorry for all the questions! Just very excited.

Check out the parts for sale section, forum prices are usually quite good.

Re: Interior Overhaul!
First of all, work out your budget, then before spending anything, come up with a rough idea/plan of what direction you'd like to go with the car. Even exterior mods you'd like to do may alter how you want the interior to look to match.
Look around the forum builds and interior thread and see what you like, what would suit you and your intended use.
With the NB8A, there's a lot of NB8B stuff that is readily available at reasonable prices that are easy to fit or only require minor modification to fit that look great and even improve comfort if you just want a stock look with "improvement".
Enjoy ...

Re: Interior Overhaul!
Thanks for the tips, guys! I'm located in Melbourne.
I do have a basic idea of what I want to do and my budget (which is why I know that leather seats are not going to happen )
I intend to do a black and chrome interior and have been religiously visiting the parts for sale section.
Also, I ordered the ignition button off eBay. Looks like that will be the first mod I'll be doing.

Re: Interior Overhaul!
If you need any tips, I've replaced quite a few small things in my NB8A that were old with great effect. I'm in outter subs Melbourne, and I have successfully fitted bucket (race?) seats to an MX-5 before.

Re: Interior Overhaul!
Got the starter button kit. It's slightly different from the guide I was reading on revlimiter.net but the electrical components seem to be in order.
I'm having trouble pulling out the cigarette lighter. I want to put the button in place of it.
Anybody who has done this before? Any tips or things to watch out for would be much appreciated!
Cheers!
