Replacing the post airbox trumpet with a cai?

]Hi guys, thought I'd put this out there and see what others thought. I've had my na6 for a couple of years without the time to do anything to it. Been thinking of doing a diy randle style cold air intake and I noticed that the previous owner must of had one as there is a very cleverly hidden hole in the cowl above the firewall. I've have been doing a lot of reading on the matter and found that up to and including the air box has ok air flow but the trumpet after the air box is the restrictive element other than drawing warm engine bay air. Has anyone else just replaced the post air box trumpet? Not really concerned about hp but I am a fan of a nice induction note

Well I'm done, it looks pretty good ( used black silicone from an intercooler) the washer bottle relocation is ok, the aluminium mount I made will need a bit of TLC to get it looking nice.
And the verdict.... definatly a little louder and a little angrier than the standard air box or the 'cheddar cheese' mod, at least with the top down. Between 3000 and 4500 rpm there is a definite deeper, angry note and it feels to pull harder and quicker which I thought it was just the power of suggestion but pulling out to over take it really got a boogie on!
In the end, happy with my cheap diy mod

Another upside has been after a longish drive through the hills I noticed that the temperature gauge is sitting nearly 5mm lower

Unsure if unique to me, or it would work for most CAIs that go through the cowl - However move your vent open/close toggle switch to the middle. It gives the induction roar a nice throaty deep tone (Only really an audible difference inside the car or if you're topless)

It could be something I need to investigate - it is due for a timing belt/waterpump change very soon.
But I'm thinking it probably had something to do with the chedder cheese mod that had been done to my airbox sucking in hot air. Instead of the gauge being straight up and vertical it is slightly to the left touching the little icon. Could be a bit to do with the ambient temp too, I cant remember. Perhaps I will have to go for another drive for confirmation ... for the sake of science ;)
