GT2554R

Postby M1474 » Thu Oct 17, 2013 10:15 pm

I think this is the turbo for me, but where to find one used?

I know they came on the MPS protege in the US but I think the SP20 was as high spec as we got here for that model 3.

Does anyone know what cars came with them standard in the ADM? Buying one new is it on the cards.

Cheers,

Seanan.

S13 turbo is basically a non ball bearin 2554.

It is small though. Most people prefer the way the 2560 drives.

Thanks Dann, they are much more affordable, is there a noticeable difference?

Tiny tiny turbos can be annoying.

They want to make a load of torque with every millimetre of throttle and fcourse have kess top end.

The 2560 is the smallest i would go. You will find yourself tsututututu-ing every time your ankle flinches with a ball bearing 2554.

Like riding a mountain bike in 1st gear everywhere i guess.

There is time and a place but for the vast majority thats not their daily. The 2560 is the sp turbo and is commonly known as the t28. It can start making boost as soon as 2000rpm and pats car makes nearly 250rwkw with one.

I'm mainly car park racing and only have 1.6, aim is 200whp max, really think the 2554 is too small for me?

Sp turbo? Can you elaborate? Also I thought T28 is the disco potato?

My budget is $500 (not that I have $500), is it a realistic goal to find a good 2554 or 2560 for than price?

Edit: brain fart! I know what an SP is.

This is what confuses people..

T25 is a term which refers to a frame size. So the GT2550 is a garret turbo, 25 frame size and 50 refers to how big it is in that range.

A GT2554 is bigger- but still a T25, and a GT2560 is even bigger but still a T25.

A GT2860 is a T28, and a GT2871 is a T28 which is bigger than a GT2860, but has the same T28 underpinnings.

In terms of nissan turbos, the S13 and S14 turbo is a GT2554 with no ball bearings, and the S15 turbo is a GT2560r (the r is for ball bearing) HOWEVER:

The S13 and S14 turbo is known as a T25 in the nissan world, and the GT2560 on the S15 is known as a T28.

As you can see the S15 turbo isnt actually a T28 at all, just a medium sized T25, but because the nissan boys refered to the S13 and S14 turbo as a T25 for so long, they simply started calling the upgrade S15 turbo a T28.

So T25 can refer to the non ball bearing GT2554 from a silvia, OR any turbo from the T25 range, and T28 can refer to the S15 GT2560r OR any turbo from the T28 range, which is confusing becuase the GT2560 isnt a turbo from the T28 range rather its from the T25 range.

A bit of a mouthful.

TLDR: T25 refers to a specific nissan T25 OR any T25, T28 refers to a slightly larger specific nissan T25 or any T28.

couple of errors.

S13 SR20det has T25
S14 series 1 and 2 SR20det has T28
S15 SR20det has T28 but some had ball bearing versions.

There is a part number on a plate on the core of the turbo.
14411-91F00 is ball bearing
14411-69F00 is plain bearing

Jap model or Aus model had a mix of turbos... not all Jap were ball bearing and vice versa.

S14 had non ball bearing 2560?

Lots of misleading info everywhere regarding this and of course the whole 'japspec vs local' etc etc.

Are those parts for aus delivered of jdm or both?

To make it more confusing Dann... Nissan parts refers to the Turbo as a T04B... not a T2x anything..

want more confusion you say?

AU/NZ S14 (pre-facelift) 14411-75F00
AU/NZ S14 (facelift) 14411-75F00
Jap S14 (pre-facelift) 14411-69F00
Jap S14 (facelift) 14411-82F01
Jap S14 (Autech/270R) 14411-RP801 (Same as S15 early MT turbo)
Jap/ NZ S15 (early*) 14411-91F00 Manual model only
Jap/ NZ S15 (early*) 14411-69F00 Automatic models

On record, direct from Nissan... All Aus delivered S14, S14A and S15 came with a Garret T04B, with "plain bush" type bearing.

In reality, there were a handfull of AUS delivered S14A and S15 cars with the BB turbo (14411-91F00)
There were a bunch of guys in the Nissan Sports Car Club of NSW who had bought their cars new from Nissan with that stock turbo....

Must have been Friday afternoon builds.

The part numbers above have been confirmed by 8 Nissan shops around Victoria.

Wow.

Anyways, what the main point is that the words t25 or t28 dont necessarily mean a t25 or a T28 :)
