Tyres and wheel alignment for NC2 in Melb. Suggestions?

Postby Jitag » Mon Oct 07, 2013 3:08 pm

The time has come to replace the original Bridgestone Potenzas on my NC2. (205/45 R17). I'm looking for something that will suit some day to day driving and some occasional 'spirited' day to day driving. I'm also toying with the idea of doing a sprint day as a 'standard NC2', just to see how it goes. I've been on the club web site, and seen the list of potential options, and the suggested wheel alignment specs. I'm looking for suggestions as to which tyres to get, where from, and where to go for a good wheel alignment.

Thanks, Jitag.

I was in the same situation a few weeks ago. I ended up with Michelin Pilot Sports 3 in 215-45-17 at $200 each in Sydney. It was all very confusing but a few searches said that these tyres were long lasting yet had very good performance. Good luck in your search.

Head over to Tyre Power North Melbourne - 9329 7333

HIGHLY recommended a few of the boys there track their cars and are a wealth of information, reasonably priced and customer service is fantastic.

I've just returned from two weeks in Tasmania with another five MX-5's. Mine and another other NC were fitted with the Michelin PS3's (215x45x17 @ $180ea).

We did most of the Targa stages, in five stages the weather was terrible, heavy rain and strong winds. At not stage did these tyres look like letting go and we both got out of our cars at the end astounded how well they hung on, neither car has traction control. Highly recommend the PS3's.

I had my NC get a wheel alignment today by Pedders Dandenong.

Before
Front Camber L -0.23deg R -0.12deg
Front Caster L +5.29deg R +5.53deg
Front Toe In L +1.10 R +2.00
Rear Camber L -1.09deg R -1.07deg
Rear Toe In L +4.30 R +0.40

After
Front Camber L -1.15deg R -1.13deg
Front Caster L +5.40deg R +5.10deg
Front Toe In L +1.00 R +1.00
Rear Camber L -1.23deg R -1.23deg
Rear Toe In L +1.50 R +1.50

First alignment since I bought the car and fitting the springs.
Happy with the numbers.
I plan to test them out this weekend down the GOR. :)
