It looks like every single model is different. Now I'm beginning to understand why I've wiped out so many gear selectors over the years while racing. It's not my fault after all. Mazda could never get it right.

Here's the NB8B. There were two variants of some sort of extra 481A, called a "Bush, Change" in there somewhere.

Man, there's a lot of stuff present just to change gears!

I wonder if those parts are something mazda would stock.. have to check tomorrow.
And thank you! I was wondering why my new boots were making popping sounds, I'll have to get that bit too...

If it's popping out and crunching, your synchros could be buggered.

First car did this, when entering third gear. Only way to get it into gear was to slam it in with brute force. While crunchy and rather unhealthy, it was only a Swift GTi gearbox and those things are considered "Consumables", so it didn't worry me a bit! (Lasted over 40,000kms doing this!)

Hmm, no it definitely feels like missing bits. If I shift in holding the stick in a certain way it just goes in perfectly.

Guys- a lesson in tightening stuff up.
That plate was present, but the bolts weren't pulled up tight, I think they rattled loose!

Nothing like driving home for 20mins in 1st gear, then stopping at a gas station to ask for a screwdriver, and remembering that you can't reverse out of the car park!

Time to call mazda and pray they have the parts.
In the meantime, my girlfriends parents don't have an mx5 so I'll either have to drive an old automatic bmw coupe or a new automatic commodore to mazda. :(
Not what I wanted to plant my bum in this morning
