Re: For how many of you is your MX5 a 2nd car?
The MX is strictly a 'Sunday car' - still under 50Ks.
The other car is a 20yo Nissan Bluebird which I really enjoy driving because in spite of being in excellent condition, it is worth almost nothing.
That counts for a lot in a town where 75% of drivers drive (I use the term lightly) 4WDs, cannot parallel park them, and are a bit vague on 'right-of-way' and roundabouts.

My NB was a weekender, and the daily was a Magna...which didn't last for many months after as the NB became the daily.
I then bought a DC2 Integra Type R and now rotate both as dailies

Lol ... I feel similar about my '99 Tarago. I'm pretty cautious where I leave my NB8A parked, especially if the hard top isn't fitted. Don't care much anymore about the odd new scratch or mark on the Tarago.
That said, the 5 is more often the first car I go to these days and gets dríven more ...

Re: For how many of you is your MX5 a 2nd car?
The daily is an E30, I don't actually own a registered mx5 right now.
When I did it had 13-15k total value, but I left it where I want window free because it wasn't worth anything to the average person, no locks, windows, killswitch, immobiliser, nothing..But it was intimidating to sit in for the uninitiated, so even if someone got it started, most would have been put off by the cams and attempting to use the clutch.
I often came back from the shops to find the glovebox or console open, but I left it empty, I used the boot to keep cheap theft worthy things (a case of beer etc) and the car had a boot release in the cabin in the factory spot, but never lost anything from the boot.
That car was daily dríven with 1 seat, no hvac, no windows save for the windscreen (hardtop window also removed) semi slicks, 6/9k springs on HKS race coilovers, E85 (this was 3 years ago it was almost unheard of to daily an E85 car back then) very lopey cams etc
Then someone tried to steal it in my driveway and lit it on fire when they couldn't..
Fortunately I called the police and they caught the bad guys and got me a new car (I am being facetious).

My NB is supposed to be the weekend/2nd car but I seem to be driving it a lot more than my daily Golf GTI, lol.

Zero, I'm shocked. I thought they were all as reliable and well put together as mine.
I have spoken with a couple of other owners who love 'em.
Mine has been a gem. I'd buy another if they were still available.
The MX is shaping up as equally good. (touch wood )

71 Datsun 1600 x 5 = excellent
72 Datsun 180B = crap
74 Datsun 180BSSS = excellent
76 Datsun 240K = magnificent
81 Bluebird = absolute rubbish
83 Skyline R30 = top shelf!!
71 Datsun 1600SSS = words can't say just how good
The 'Lemonbird' at 30,000km chewed the lobes off the camshaft on a trip to QLD - supposedly never been seen before - BUT, considering I kept the car over 6 years, paid $7,990 new I sold it with over 400,000km for $5,000
I won't mention my first two cars, I'd be having nightmares again at the thought of just how STUPID some people can be in making choices
Shortest period I had a car was 1975 when I bought a '70 Cooper 'S' as a second car, kept jumping out of gear so after 9 days and having paid $850 for it I clean swapped for a '69 Datsun 1600 that the Dealer wanted $1,400 for

The Bluebird is one of those names that don't work in certain languages and was (in fact, still is) a bit of a joke in Singapore and Malaysia.
If you translate Blue-bird into the Hokkien dialect, it sounds like cock...not of the feathered kind.

Funnily enough, Nissan is quite the culprit here. Models such as the Latio (Tiida here) and Sylphy are also commonly known as Fellatio and Syphillis.

Re: For how many of you is your MX5 a 2nd car?
Its funny how the majority bought their MX5 for the weekend toy or sunday cruiser but it has actually ended up being their daily driver or the car they use the most often and the intended daily driver just sits in the shed haha. Not that that's a bad thing, just goes to show how much fun these cars really are and just how much enjoyment their owners get from driving them.
No doubt Ill most likely need a car with more seats or a bigger boot one day, probably get a Subaru or a small Suzuki or a Mazda 3... or a 86/BRZ lol. But for now the MX5 is a fantastic car and an absolute blast to drive every day of the week. I will always have an MX5 in my life, it may not always be my daily driver but I will always have one they are just that much fun.

Motorbike/bicycle as the daily. Motorbike through winter, when it rains or when I need to head somewhere straight from work; bicycle mostly during the warmer months.
NA LE as my partners daily and our "family car"; runs to the shop, heading out to dinner, etc.
NA as weekend/track car.
