Dayco alternator/water pump pulley belts

Postby ralt » Wed Oct 09, 2013 12:16 pm

Hi.
Just thought I would post about my experience with a dayco belt.
Recently replaced the belt with a dayco and immediately I was getting rubber dust all over the engine covers. Belt was tensioned correctly and was ok until I heard a noise in the front of the engine. Upon inspection the belt had shed a section along its length and had effectively become a rubber band and loose although still working. Bought a Gates belt and the differences are very apparent when comparing the two. The gates is deeper with teeth moulded to grip the "v" in the pulley the dayco doesn't even get to the "v" with no teeth and it would seem relies on the sides of the pulley for grip.
If you are using the dayco belt have a good look at it as you are all aware this belt is the most important in the engine and if replacing use a gates.

I've used a Dayco belt before.
It was always noisy even when tensioned correctly.
I use gates belts all the time now, they are HEAPS better.

I use just thre regular gates black belts. just as cheap as anything out there. the a/c+p/s was $11, and the w/p + alt belt was $14. i think 4pk1065 and 4pf1095, or something similar.
