Semi Slicks

Hi,

Interested to hear what majority are running in 2F mx5 racing/prod sports ?

Is there a specific tyre that is more dominant of late ?

Are most running 205/50 or 225/45 ?

Any tips on most affordable shop to purchase ?

Kumho V70, can't remember the shop name at the moment but expect to pay approx $300 per corner. I'm running 205x50x15 but I've seen some competitors run the 225's.
I'm sure some will say they don't like them but that's what most of us are running. They seem to work well for a light car.

Just noticed you're in Qld so I need to mention all of the above is in regards to NSW.

Hi. Yeah as per John above, in the MRA most guys are running Kumhos. Prod sports I think you will find few Kumhos and more BStones and Michelins. Obviously the tyre choice is dictated by THIS list in 2f.

I am currently running Kumhos. 225/45s. Haven't been happy with them at all, do not seem to get more than a couple of quick laps before they go off. If you are after them call F SPORT in Arndell Park - John.

They're too thin, only 195/55/15 is available in 15" from memory. All their 17"s and bigger were really tall (630mm+) diameter so not very mx5 friendly. So I doubt you'll find anyone running them except maybe at clubsprint level.

Tirerack have a good range of sizes in the z214, but in any sort of moisture they would be interesting, minimal tread.

I've got A050 on my Lotus and there a great tyre, much better than what I've previously used in Toyo R888 and A048 LTS.

I've heard mixed feelings on the V70a, they don't look like a typical R spec tyre but seem to be decent on track for lightweight cars.

Just wanted to see what majority run as I'm looking to buy a fresh set for the MX5 at the moment.

I bought an Mx5 last week that is set up as a sprint car. Has Achilles 123 semi slicks 195x50x15. http://motivedvd.com/motive/2012/12/06/ ... oser-look/

These are about $125 each. Previous owner raved about them. I have used them on the road only so far.

A050 are $335each

Hankook Z214 looks to be a awesome tyre @ $300each but unfortunetly not cams compliant.

Z Cars were very helpful, unfortunetly the Hankook is not cams approved.

The RS3 is although it's not a true race R spec tyre.

Have a look at Bridgestone RE11S for $295 a tyre (in 185/60R14). Compared with performance street tyres (RE001), they're worth about two seconds a lap at Wakefield Park on my car. Or if you're happy to compromise with an S spec tyre, you cannot go past Dunlop Star Specs (quicker and easier to use than Toyo R888 on my car).

The person (Andrew Hawking) who wrote the article you linked to about the Achilles 123S does not use them on his Time Attack car, he uses Hankooks. That should tell you something.

Achilles have a treadwear rating of 220, Hankook 140 and Kumho 50. Even though the Kumho are so soft they don't wear out as fast as you would think. For a road/occasional track trye the Archilles are an excellent choice especially for the price.

If anyone else knows the treadwear rating, size and price of any other semi slick tyre please post so we can create some sort of database.
