Funny, that is not what Levens told me. Pressure info matches, but not the pyro readings. Haven't got my notes in front of me, but it was definitely a temperature gradient across the tread, hottest at the outside.

It is a really good idea to get a setup sheet or a note book and write down all the readings and any changes that you make as well as how the car felt. I have collected all the data on tyre temps and suspension setup changes (rebound/dampers) for all my track days and once you understand it it is very useful and can tell you an awful lot about what is going on. The tyres I have used so far are R888's and Federal 595 RS-R's, next it will be Federal FZ201's that will be tested. However it is always good to only make one or two changes at a time as you will then not know what or what did not work.

Given your budget for the rest of the car why are you scalping on tyres?

Because the car is road registered Haven't decided on full slicks however even if I did go that way I would still need to collect the data, anlayse and understand it. However I could run slicks under the QLD MX5 car club rules and still not be classified as 'race spec' as 'If your tyre is not road legal and considered a race specification tyre you are considered modified' and my car is road registered. But there maybe some intent in the rules hence it would not be 'fair' to run full slicks on a road car. Also the 2013 budget for the car is now in the red and do I really NEED slicks?
Trust me I will not be scalping on tyres as like brakes they will help keep you alive.

Magpie.. I dont know what car you have but i would recommend against the FZ201s.. I put them on my NA and they where horrible.. best I could manage with them at wakefield was a 1:16, put on the Yoko A050 and I did a 1:12 straight away. I put on 205/50/15 Med compound ans they where too hard and couldnt get any heat into them no matter what i tried.

Nice article, is anyone using a wireless tyre pressure system?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
