Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Some feedback PM'd to me this morning from the owner of the first ever car I built a turbo setup for.
Thanks joe.
His minor issue was a leaky gasket which I warned him would happen with his lead foot
So gasket free setup coming soon

JOJO82 wrote:Hey Dann,
Just wanted to give you a bit of feedback on the turbo setup you built for me over a year ago..
So 2 weeks ago I finally was able to get it back out on the track and I must say I was pleasantly surprised as I forgot what it felt like to drive.
The last time I had it on the track was at Wakefield but this time was out at Sydney Motorsport Park doing the Brabham circuit.
The last time I drove this circuit was the old layout before it was redone and was when I had the blower on the car so it was good to compare the two.
I must say the car absolutely pulls hard coming out of turns and there is honestly no lag to speak off and this is running a T28 turbo. It just pulls hard, and keeps on going right up until 7200rpm where it is still making power but is hitting my redline.
Now comparing this to the old blower setup is a world of difference...The supercharger was instant but was lacking the pull that the turbo setup has.
I mean everytime I put my foot down you can feel this this just throw you back whereas the supercharger didn't have this feel.
Coming down the main straight I noticed a big difference in top end speed compared to the blower. With the blower the max I could manage was around 170 - 180kph. With the turbo I was constantly reaching 220kph
The setup is reliable and was abused for pretty much the whole day and was faultless except for the minor issue that I discussed with you.
Just wanted to say thanks for building the setup and all the over the phone advice you provide.
Feel free to post these comments wherever you like as a testimonial of your great work.
I also need to arrange sometime with you to do a bit more work on the car...
Cheers
Joe

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
An exhaust for a members race car/daily warrior. I only snapped a couple of photos.
It is a 2.25" SS system with a race cat a mild hotdog and a mild 3" muffler, no idea how it will sound, Ill get sound clips soon
These are mazdaspeed headers and look at all of the cracks inside them. They are gorgeously made but the steel is just so thin.
Apologies for some blurry photos.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Headers should be rigidly mounted to the bellhousing or gearbox so that the mounting flange is not taking the flexing caused by engine twisitng, lateral G forces and road bumps. If you do that properly then all that flexing is absorbed at the flexible section in the header end pipe. Otherwise you're swinging the entire exhaust system off the header mounting flange at the cylinder head - stupid - and things will crack exactly as pictured. So I don't regard this as a header fault, just a fitting fault.NitroDann wrote:

Yep happened to my dump pipe. Exhaust shop said its missing the bracket that goes on the back of the gearbox mount. Hasn't cracked since.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
This particular header doesnt come with a gearbox bracket, nor does the OEM one fit, where their other models do have one.
It's an oversight on the manufacturers part.
Stock inlet manifold on the 2j.

No, the thing in front of the turbo is NOT an alternator

Love your work Dann and those custom tools you have - is that a silicon hose you're using to measure the length of the manifold runners?
Simple and effective.
