Leather Seat Experiences

Looking for some experiences with leather in an MX5?
Mainly looking for people that have them saying yes or no they are a good thing.
I have the East Bear buckets that are a bit of a pain to commute with.

I have the SE leather seats in my car.
Coming from an NA cloth seats, my views are:

1. The bottom no longer sinks in like in my NA seats.
2. Much firmer and more support and taller seat.
3. But sits higher than NA cloth seat.
4. Hot and sticky in summer, after parking.
5. Need to wipe it and condition them with leather products every now and then. I really don't want to end up with the ugly cracks on my black leather seats.
6. Felt much higher than NA seats. My head is now close to roof, but easier to get in/out of car.

I really considered bucket seats like Sparco Sprint. But my legs are a bit on the fat side and felt very tight there. I know It meant to hold me in place, but it feels I will have a numb lower body after an hr driving. I do however desire the lower driving positions.

My seats in my NB8A are cloth SE seats but previous owner had done a foamectomy. Sits me much lower in the car. Feels just as comfortable and more support than stock. Worth looking in to ...

I found that the Mazdaspeed reclining seats are a nice compromise. Better at holding you than stock but not as uncomfortable as a fibreglass bucket.

My main experience was in a BRG+Tan NA6 and I was far from impressed. I was sliding around a lot, even on gentle curves at a leisurely pace. SE seats are probably better since they are based on the more supportive NB8B design.

I have those same seats and agree on the compromise comment.

* VERY comfortable for long trips.
* Lateral support is superior to stock seats, great for DD and trackwork
* Side bolsters are too low for trackwork (but better than stock seat) since you still need to brace yourself a bit
* Side bolsters are too high for DD since they make getting in and out a bit harder

Having said that, I'm a "short-ass", if you were 6-1 or taller you may not find them so comfortable.
Surprisingly, I have broad shoulders that actually fit within these seats - I can't actually sit back in most track seats, my shoulder blades straddle the lateral supports.

Living in QLD, I appreciate the cloth inserts since my OEM SE leather seats could get uncomfortable in summer (and slippery).

Hey Lokiel/Jeo, the Mazdaspeeds sit a little higher than standard seats right? What would you say the difference is?

for daily driving SE leather seats are good.

Sure, they are hot in summer and cold in winter.....

but bird sh*t wipes off (if you're unlucky enough to get stung with your roof down)

easy to clean... just a chamoise when washing car

looks more upmarket.....

As with ANY seat though, you MUST give it a "test sit" first to see if you fit and if you like them. Try and find someone with them already fitted and try them out.

I bought lower rails as I didn't fit in the car with a helmet on with the standard Mazdaspeed rails.

Yeah, the rails are built into the seat. Maybe rail feet would be a better term? There's a foot at each corner of the rail that is bolted to the rail. The rail is generic, where as the feet can be bought for practically any 90's Mazda. I bought lower feet.
