extractors on a na8

Postby erecsean » Tue Oct 01, 2013 10:38 am

Hey guys, just wondering how much of a difference in terms of power gains when u installed extractors on a na8. Atm im only running a 2.25 inch catback and looking to install some aftermarket extractors from OBX Motorsports. Cheers.

Stewart (CES) extractors here - small gain, but given the usual other NA mods had already been done it adds up.

Apart from my 2.25 catback, i also have a cold air intake. But i highly doubt that gives gains anyways lol.

In addition to cat back, extractors, & CAI, the usual other basic NA mods are hi flow cat, cops, & interceptor.

If you havn't got a high flow cat you aren't gaining anything.

The answer though, is more boost.

Just ignore Dann, boost is his answer to everything.

Good extractors, hi-flow cat and 2.25" exhaust together should net you 8-10rwkw on an NA8, more if your old cat is stuffed (which is quite possible). The standard NA8 headers are not the best that Mazda ever put on an MX5, nevertheless most of the gains will come from the exhaust. Note that I said good extractors. I would not rate OBX as being in any way good - cheap yes, good no. Suggest you browse through this forum for a while to get other peoples' opinions on extractors they've used.

More boost IS the answer to everything :)

I drove a built n/a na6 once, don't worry, I 'get it'.

Magnablue is right in saying that simply slapping polished ebay parts on wont net you power, do some research and remember, an engine is a system. Not parts that bolt on with cumulative hp (ie a +10hp tune a +15hp exhaust and a +10hp intake does NOT add up to 35hp gain).
