gear indicator
Hey guys just wondering is it possible to install a gear indicator? There's 7 wires, N and 1st-6th

It's possible to install anything, onto anything.
How easy that is though, is another story.
Do you have the indicator?
Does it have instructions?
Is it universal fit, or for an MX5?
At a guess I'd say that you'll likely need to make up some form of bracketry to hold some form of momentary switches in the positions the gearstick sits in each gear.
And you'd also need to take into account the movement of the gearbox/stick etc as your drive.
It's possible, but I woud have doubts as to how simple it is to do, how well it works, and also how reliably it works.
How easy that is though, is another story.

The Cartek works by RPM and speed so is independent of what gear you are actually in. For example in my NA6 7,000 rpm in 3rd equals about 100 however it is unlikely that this would be done normally. Hence you need something that knows the position of the gear stick.

Yer im not looking into making some contraption around the gear stick, just thought there might be wires going to the ecu telling it what gear its in

I've been thinking about a microswitch mechanism for variable boost control in different gears. Low boost 1st & 2nd, high or TPS controlled boost 3rd and higher.
Would be pretty easy to jerry rig something to make on the passenger side of the shifter or better yet tap into the turret on the drivers side.

Nope.
The ECU doesn't even know, or care, if you've even got a gearbox at all. Let alone what gear it's in.
The only exception might be an automatic.

Thanks hks, and the paper circuit board behind my gauge cluster and so i made a custom one. Im not fused if it works or not just would of looked cool and earned a few bragging points.

A reasonable ecu will use the vss to guess the gear your in based on revs and Vss output. These type of ecus will also support low boost in low gears.
