Fiddled with the tow car today...
Image

  • Replaced coolant overflow (existing one had fractures and was leaking fluid)
  • Replaced failed inner CV boot on front left driveshaft. Had to go to TotalTools to get a 17mm allen socket, that place is awesome huge.
  • Changed oil and filter, easiest car I’ve owned for oil changes.
  • Discovered why the car was running sh*t…. Intake hose that attaches MAF to throttle body was not clamped on properly

4.2litre? How does it perform towing?

That's a wide motor. No room for turbos?

Reasonable, bit crap off the line, but no problems once you're moving, capable enough to leave it in 6th once you're on a freeway.

Rear mounted perhaps? Not sure how you'd get the intake pipe back up to the top of the motor... there's no room.

Have now been to Calder in the car.... managed a 1:08.
Still trying to get used to the ABS, it has a tendency to kick in when I don't want it to.
I think the car isn't transferring enough weight forward. Too stiff perhaps?

Next up is Wakefield in ~6 weeks. Might try reduce the camber on the car before then as the data suggests the car has too much.

Are you braking to transfer the weight to the front before fully braking hard? Going by your sig, you went a full 10 seconds faster than the blue car. Nice.
Do you think reducing camber will make it faster? I would love to get some more rear grip.

I am trying to do that.

Spoke to Nick, he said not to change it.
You need to learn to reduce your entry speed a little more.

I spent the weekend at Wakefield Park in NSW.

Sunday was a VIC MX-5's vs NSW MX-5's day, so I spent the Saturday practicing and getting my eye in for the track.
Saturday I managed around a 1:10.4 which was pretty reasonable I think. That set a target of a sub 1:10 for Sunday.

Sunday, the big day, far too many stocker MX-5's for my liking. It was like a hairdressers convention. MX's just look stupid on stock wheels at stock height.

Anyhoo, I managed a 1:10.1 good enough to be the fastest Victorian, not good enough to beat local man Mark in his Turbo NB roadcar. The man has skill... and a Turbo.

Yes, seconding that.

I was a full second off my PB yesterday, and there was no way I was going to get within cooee of a 10.1 - great job Brendan!

I will have see if we can even that score at PI next year, though you guys are tough nuts to crack away, never mind playing at home

See you next year!

Does look good.

Would you believe my car has a vented bonnet, c.f fastback, c.f boot and will be getting a few more goodies like the pod filter and front and rear aero done tonight.
Getting it ready for the aus super sprint next weekend. Want to get it all done in one night.
