BNE - I've mapped this out

Postby TTT » Fri Sep 27, 2013 4:24 pm

I'm not sure if it's a common drive for others...
But spending some time looking at nebo/glorious etc on google maps, I've put together this loop that I'm going to try myself this weekend or next.

Basically....
Start = Petrie
Head over to Eatons crossing, then over to Samford, along Pei rd, up Glorious, take a right to go all the way over Glorious
Along side Lake Wivenhoe, then along side Lake Somerset, up to Kilcoy...
then come back down Mt Mee to Bayboro and back to Petrie.

Google maps says about 200kms and 3 hours.
I've dríven nebo and glorious as far as Northbrook parkway to Lake Wivenhoe then turned back.. so the rest will be new to me.

All looks good on maps to me..

Add a loop around Winn Rd and Clear Mountain (extra 20 km) on the way home rather than drone along Dayboro Rd. http://goo.gl/maps/eMdY9

I did this drive today.
3 hours and 226km later I've come to the conclusion that when I reached the bottom of nebo, I should have turned back and gone all the way over to the gap then gone home.

The roads after nebo that go towards summerset dam etc are absolutely sh*t.

Nice scenery etc but boring and uncomfortable to drive

When I finally got around to mt mee it was ok fun, but too short and not as fun as it would have been going back up nebo from the north end.

Anyway.. know for next time.
Another thing to know for next time... 5am at petrie is not the same temp as 5:30am at Samford... ƒü¢k me. Need jumper.

Heater cranked to 3 managed to get some feeling back in the fingers.

I guess I could have put the roof up but what's the use in that.

Amen.

Adelaide hills are like that in winter. Heater on max fries your feet, but your head and hands still require de-icing.

So I did this about 2 weekends ago.

made myself car sick..

Didn't have any breakfast, and possibly had ear blockage or something.

Went up glorious from samford side, turned right and went down otherside... when the road flattened out, did a U turn and went back up..
By the time I reached the cafes up there, I started feeling sick.

Had to cruise down to the gap doing it a little easier.
Was doing unwanted burps driving home..

i dont like the wivenhoe to kilcoy to woodford section either. not because of the roads. but the sheer boredom of driving those country roads.

in the old days when i could handle 3 hours of driving a day. we'd start at waterwork rd and go up nebo, down glorious, through dayboro, up and down mee, through woodford, then you have many options from there. maleny-stanley river rd, bald knob rd, bellthorpe range rd. And heaps of others going through kenilworth, montville, mooloolah depending on which way you'd wanna travel.
