It could do multi-stud patterns, I would just need the other PCD's and have them added to the drawing.

Just received a quote for the Mark II stands of $234 (+ gst) for 4 stands cut out of 6mm plate, SUPPLY only no fabrication. This is not the next version which will allow a toe bar to be fitted but it should not cost much more. Once the final design is done I will post it on here and then I can email the DWG file to whoever needs it so they can get a price closer to home. Again thanks for all the input.

Final version with toe bar support added. I have also uploaded the DWG file. If you send all 3 files to a laser cutting/fabrication place they should be able to give you a quote. If the files are not sufficient PM me and I will get the files adjusted as required.

Out of interest I have found a lazy Susan bearing that takes up to 450kg http://www.smallparts.com.au/store/item/lsb300/lazysusanbearings/ this would only require a small change to the base as well as an additional base piece. My scales are 381mm square so a 300mm base plate is not a problem.

Mark III of the stands, with the missing part and now a 300x300mm base for the 450kg lazy susan bearing to help with toe http://www.smallparts.com.au/store/item/lsb300/lazysusanbearings/. If using this bearing then you will need 2 base plates.

Great work!

Just thinking, if you greased the second baseplate, would that allow enough movement I wonder? My concern with the bearing is that you will need lateral movement as the stand takes up the weight of the car, followed by circular movement as adjustments are made, so the stand will have to move sideways initially. As a proponent of simplicity first, I think I will try the grease route and see if that works. I have also heard that using a couple of sheets of newspaper will also allow free movement ..., so there are a couple of options to try.

greenMachine I agree that some lateral movement will occur however provided that the car was gently lowered this could be minimised as the camber is taken by the vertical pivot and he toe by the bearing in the base. If you have another suggestion let me know and I can get it incorporated.

Apu if you download the files and send them to a fabrication place they can get a quote for you. I will get a 5 x 114.3 stud pattern done when I return to work. What size do the holes need to be?

Oh OK...misunderstood. I thought you were going to organise this as a group buy. Didn't want to just take your work and run off to a fabricator.

A group buy maybe possible however the freight on the cut steel would make it uneconomical so my logic is to let people use the design and get it cut local to them. As long as people who use the design understand that it has not been engineer certified then I'm happy. All I ask in return is that people post the price that they were quoted (and the steel size that they are using).

So let me take this from a different angle and present a possibly cheaper alternative.

A set of wheel spacers (20mm?), square tubes (same size as jack stands), steel plate and steel strip.

Weld steel strip in a loop to accommodate said spacer (and some way to hold it captive), weld square tubes to loop, weld tube to plate. Voila!

And if you want multi stud option, just buy another set of spacers to fit stud pattern.

Would this work?

Apu I guess that would work. Even easier would to be get a set of car stands and attach the hub/spacer to the top. However you will not be able to measure caster or toe. Say $80 for 4 stands, plus the spacers and this may cost more than the laser cutting of the steel, however there is still the welding costs.

Thanks for that if not for your link I would not have seen it. I see that they are trying to do the same but cheap (like here) but in the end it is a case of horses for courses. I like the conveyor ball transfer idea but again it would need to be modified to have a lip on the upper or lower plate to stop it all slipping off. Again possible but the cost would just keep going up. I will see what the extra design would be to incorporate that idea but again it will add cost and complexity.

How many conveyor balls required by stand, my guess at least 4 or 5, what rating, my guess at least 300 kg so for 5 balls they would have to be rated at a min of 60kg each and the load spread evenly. It would be a simple process of making a small box to limit the movement but again is it worth it? Rough guess this would add about another $150 to the cost of each stand.
