MX5 Workshops in Melbourne?

Postby omega36 » Mon Sep 09, 2013 9:15 pm

Hey guys,

I was hoping someone could recommend a workshop that is very knowledgable with MX5's in Melbourne? I did search, but a lot of the results are quite old, and am unsure how relevant they currently are.

It would be a major advantage if they're familiar with supercharged applications; I'm having a number of issues with my supercharged MX5 and having just paid $2k for a major service, would prefer not to be paying for someone else to learn their way around an MX5.

Greatly appreciated! :DIY:

Hi Omega36, I'd recommend the MX5 Factory in Ringwood if you haven't already given them a try. I've only ever personally have had great experiences with them.
Have only really had some servicing done and change of wheel hub assembly's, so no experience with supercharged stuff.

Dick Richey, who runs the place, is definitely an enthusiast of the cars and knows what he's talking about, being in the business for how ever many years. Always keen to let you know what's happening and keen for a chat. You usually have to call up at the end of the day to find out if the car's ready or not as they can be forgetful, but no big deal. Great people, very knowledgeable, reasonable prices, good/fast work, which in the end is really all that matters. Hopefully some others can add to this/their experiences at other workshops too.

Goodluck!

A red MX5 coming the other way must have RSI by now from all the waving he did.

Motorsport Essentials in Braeside have developed a very good reputation with the Vic mx5 club guys over the last few years. They've done a few forced induction setups for club members.

Dean is the owner and very easy to deal with. Their prices are good and the attention to detail is even better.

Depending on your location around Melbourne, to Dean @ Motorsport Essentials I'd add:
Dan & Daz @ Road Track Rally, 18 Short St, Dandenong, 9792 4024;
Gerald & Chaz @ Mammi Motors, 10 Industrial Drv, Somerville, 5977 7973; &
Allmaz, 492 Clayton Rd, Clayton, 9544 7044.

Dan & Daz @ Road Track Rally have much experience with forced induction MX5s, so given your NB8A has a JRSC fitted it might be worth contacting them first. That said, Motorsport Essentials, Road Track Rally, Mammi Motors, & Allmaz, have many happy customers amongst forumites here.

Allmaz would be my pick for MX5 stuff, they're who I use.
They do great work at a good price.

But, for modified stuff, I'd probably pick RTR (Road Track Rally) since they have a lot of experience with tuning and modified cars. (Both of the owners have owned MX5s, Darren had a damn fast Turbo CLubman, and Dan has had a fair few MX5s including his current racecar)

Didn't they move to Mulgrave earlier in the year?

Other way around.
They were orig in Mulgrave but moved to bigger, newer premises in Braeside earlier this year.

Nothing a little Araldite won't sort - except some of the bits seemed to have vapourised.

Oh, nice. I must have misread somewhere.
That's about 2minutes away from me.... I'll have to swing by and check it out.

Cheers.
