So my battery finally died. I hadn't replaced the battery in the mx5 at all and I've owned the car a good 4-5 years now maybe. I was thinking that was a good effort. Until I read the date on the battery...
Turns out my battery was a lot older than I anticipated.
9 years old, turning 10 I didn't know batteries lasted longer than 5-6 years! Almost got a decade out of it before it died. In some ways I feel bad for it, having something that long I almost feel attatched to it. You have to be impressed with it's fighting spirit.
I will miss you battery We shared many a drive and with you, dies the last piece of the previous owner. May your successor surpass you.

Josh,
Cut one of the legs off your bed, replace it with the battery and stay close for ever.
Greg.

When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Re: Astounded after replacing battery
Sounds like the battery in the Mondeo.
Started having issues with it and had a new one put in, when I looked at the old one I realised it was the factory battery from new!
That was 2009 I think?
Batteries tend to last a fair while when treated well, long trips and not running them flat seem to help them last (normal batteries anyway, not sure for the MX5 ones since they're gel filled or something?)

Re: Astounded after replacing battery
My NB when I sold it in 2011 still had the original battery from the factory in 2001. As far as I know the original battery is still in the car
