The other thing to note is that no matter how much boost you run, no matter how much power the dyno tells you that you have you'll rarely use it.

I had over 20psi in a stock bottom end that lasted for years.

The secret?

You don't make full boost/power/torque in day to day driving (or if you do you wont be licensed long).

As Dann said - tune it well and it will be good for 250hp.

I'd be thinking about how much nicer a 200-220hp reliable car is when compared with a close to the edge 250hp car. You don't want to be pushing it home, and you wont feel a great difference for the extra 30hp...

Tuned well at 200-220hp it'll live through a bad tank of fuel, 250+, maybe not.

Tune was finally done by Mick's Motorsport over the last two days

Turns out, my previous tune was rubbish (running 10.5:1 AFR) and detonating quite bad due to huge amounts of timing.

Before the tune, it pulled 129kw at 9psi

After the tune - it pulled 148.1kw at 12psi

Mick didn't want to put anymore boost through it, as it wasn't worth the possible damage for the sake of an extra 5-10kw.

Although i haven't had the chance to drive her hard yet, it definitely drives alot smoother and revs a whole lot quicker

Mick has tuned a few MX5s and had good results, from basic AVO turbo kits to full blown built engine monsters!

A bit off topic but I had the same problem with my sr20det, turbo to manifold studs kept loosening. The nuts don't loosen it's the studs that unwind themselves out of the manifold. Usually if your using a stainless manifold and steel studs, different metals, different heat expansion rates. Once the studs loosen the gasket can blow out too if it's old enough.
I agree with Nitrodan, it's a pain and not something you want to be having to re tighten monthly.
I know atomic performance do 8mm and 10mm stud kits for about $110.
Worth the extra money for less headaches and more time behind the wheel
