My donor car should be turning up next week, (Thanks Lou!) so since its looking we're not going to see any frame components till Christmas, I'd thought I'd start working on the trailers designed specifically to carry MX5's. These aren't just for Exocet's, I'm designing a specific single axle trailer with the correct balancing points for MX5.

Do you have affliation with the vendor? Are you able to speak on his/her behalf?
If yes, please help as I cannot find it. If not, I'd suggest you are the on trolling.

This vehicle is a very exciting prospect and I've had numerous conversations with Matt regarding it's availability here in Australia.

I'll also go on record and say I have no financial interest in his business. That said I'm very impressed with the research Matt has done to ensure the viability of the car here in Australia. As someone who is involved in the 'compliance' of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles (SEVS) I am fully aware of the red tape he will need to go through. It's encouraging that he is doing the work at the beginning rather than leaving it to others to sort out the mess later on....

Matt is very enthusiastic and with him the project is in great hands.

Rightio, first off, Dann and Chris, thanks for your support. Its going to be a struggle to get these off the ground and onto the road/track, and knowing that you guys are here with your advice, means alot to me.

Saying that, for the rest of you, I'll give you all a quick rundown.

Currently, I am talking to Kevin at Exomotive in the States about the frames. I cant just order them, ship them here and build them because the bloody yanks drive on the wrong side of the road, meaning that some design changes need to be made so that the frames here can be built with the steering wheel on the correct side of the car.
Once the changes are confirmed, (another week or 2) I'm told that the first lot will take 5 weeks to assemble, then 6 weeks to arrive here by boat.
I've already placed the first order of 5 Frames, being 4 Sport frames and 1 Race frame. I'm taking the first Sport frame, which will be built alongside Chris' second frame, and with Lou's Race frame. For those of you that are interested in the Sports Frames, there is 2 left. It's my understanding, that the more cars paperwork handed to the RTA at the same time, might just push compliance through a bit quicker than just if I was doing my frame first.
I'm taking on the costs associated with the engineering, so that guys who buy kits can be handed a folder with all the compliance certificates inside, making it easier and cheaper for those that do buy kits, to register them. I could do what the other distributors do, and hand over just a kit, and let each individual do the testing themselves at their own cost, but I dont see that as a good business practice. My plan is for you, the customer, to pay your deposit, I build the frame, complete all items in the kit, you pay me the balance, I ship it to you, you build your car, and submit your paperwork to the relevant Authority, along with your own automotive engineers certificate required for an ICV (Which I'm hoping is the only certificate you should have to pay for)

Now, my trailers...

I've found a trailer that I like the look of that will work with our light weight cars, meaning it can be a single axle. Problem I have with the original is that it has Patent plastered all over it, so it needs some re-design to get around it. It also cant be loaded by one person, due to the mudguards in the way of the doors when the deck is on the ground, so you cant get out of the car (its good for the Exocet, but not an original MX5 unless you want to climb out the window)
Like I said in my previous post, I'm hoping my donor gets delivered next week, so the design can start. Once it does start, it wont take long before it turns up at some events so people can see it and play with it.

As for me, I'm based in Newcastle. I tried negotiating with the Landlord of the same industrial complex that Nitro Dann is in, but he rejected my original offer, so I'm currently looking to see what else is available in the Newcastle area that will suit my needs.

My guess is Matt will struggle to assemble more than 10 or so cars in the first year.

I doubt he will have any troubles selling that many.

If they go as good as they seem to I will be getting one done as well.

Why are there troubles converting LHD to RHD I this is a UK project
and they are RHD to begin with.
