The most over engineered part of the MX5

Postby Locutus » Fri Sep 06, 2013 5:12 pm

... has got to be the ECU cover. Relatively thick steel plate, stamped with ribs for extra strength and held down in no less than 5 places with nuts & bolts.

You would think it's a structural member of the car!

They are usually half rusted through though.

Pfft,

Why not Glen Ridge on MyMP 1377?

Or party night on Magic1278?

If you move the ecu behind the glovebox and ditch that rediculous plate your passenger gets a substantial amount more leg room. Mazda were mad to put it there.

Most over engineered part? Probably the engine, they seriously seem to be burst proof and still give good power with no oil use with hundreds of thousands of KM on them.

Enough to fit a low profile shallow subwoofer box and have the same legroom as factory?

These days I'm torn between listening to Glenn Ridge on MyMP, or hearing the good news from Tony Tardio on Magic. My arthritic fingers take a few hours to change between the two stations.
