replacing clutch slave cylinder

so my clutch slave cylinder finally went last night.

usual symptoms of clutch going to the floor, a little pumping managed to get it to work a bit but it was flocked.

I pulled over and the reservoir was almost empty so i went to the closest servo and got some brake fluid to top it up.

I managed to get home ok in the end.

however my question is should i replace the slave cylinder and rebuild the master cylinder at the same time?

I figure its worth if i am getting into it anyway.

I replaced slave and master at the same time, as I have heard the pressure of a new master is enough to blow the old slave and vice versa.

The master is a bitch to do lol

typical, the instructions i found make it seem easy enough but thats never the case is it!

should i do one before the other or just replace them both then bleed it?

PM CaptainNatefor info on slave then master issues.

The issue now could be that the master had a whole pile of gunk at the bottom and when you added more fluid it flused/forced the gunk into the seal/piston area now hence yes a rebuild on the master would be on the cards or even a replacement. Good luck.

If doing both make sure you flush/blow the lines out before refitting them as there maybe some rubbish in them.

I'd start just with the slave. When you're bleeding it, pump gently so the seals don't pop.

hmmm, i might bleed the system first before replacing the bits to get rid of all the gunk then.

As Pam says do slave first & worth flushing initially as you suggest. Replaced the original slave cylinder in my '93 NA8 in 2005 - master cylinder is still the original.

I recently bought a slave cylinder rebuild kit from MX5parts.co.uk Didn't fix the problem. Bought an aftermarket slave cylinder, still didn't fix the problem (although somewhat better now). I have a new master coming from the UK as I type this post. So far I have gone through almost 2 bottles of brake fluid...

yeah thats why i pretty much thought it best to replace it all in one go.

unless there is a leak in a hard line?
