I found in my NA there was even a difference from brand to brand in same/similar viscosity. I had noise fairly soon after any oil change using Penrite. Nulon usually kept it pretty quiet virtually until next oil change was due. Always used Nulon flush with each oil change and also tried that Nulon Lifter Free - worked well.

Re: AM I USING THE RIGHT OIL?
I have used Magnatec 10-40 since I've owned the car. Currently over 400,000km on the clock and no lifter noise. Maybe the lifters fell out. :p
