damn, did that bolt end up rounding ? bad luck man, i hate it when a simple install that should take 20 minutes to do encounters a problem which stuffs everything up..

i'm jealous of your gear knob and handbrake !

Feel your pain on the bolt Scott ... had a similar issue with one of mine when I changed my seats. Got it out using a mate's 12v impact wrench, despite it having been rounded slightly in a previous life. But now, one of the nuts at the top of my NB's shocks will not budge & despite trying to be real careful, I've ended up rounding it off ... obviously wasn't careful enough :? Appears too rounded for the impact wrench this time (I did the job well!) so I've been trying to find alternate ways of getting it off. Thought about trying those special sockets that "bite" in to the nut and are supposed to get stubborn, rounded nuts off, but nowhere seems to stock them locally. May have to go through ebay ...

Your car's coming together very nicely. Will be interested to see what you think of the SE exhaust. Damn you were quick on that one

I encountered the same problem over the weekend, the rear coilovers went in no problem but the front bolts would not budge and just rounded, let me know how you go with yours Kev!

.. yeah, subtle improvements over the bland stock ones and adds a wee bit of contrast in the car.

I got a socket from Repco which have more "teeth" to grip onto the bolt, but it's so tight that it still slips. used the vise-grips and turn the bejesus outta it, but fail miserably too. Oh well, hopefully one of the guys can help me out in the next meet-up..

Just lucky with the SE exhaust (and good thing seller stays real close too), I don't expect any performance gains from it..but if I get a nice sound of it, I'd be stoked. I'm digging the chrome tip with the Mazdaspeed etched on it as opposed to the boring steel pipe. Wonder what's next, maybe a next set of headers?

For us nut rounders ... I got these from Bunnings this morning ...

Image

Made by Irwin. Tapped the socket on to the nut so that it was on firmly, used a shifter on the socket head, took less than a minute and the nut was off! Easy! ...

Image

Gripped so well that I had to use the vice grips and a hammer to get the socket off the nut

.. how much did you get that for, Kev?
Dang.. looks like I've got to get that too. Already spent like $60 for the vise-grip + 1/2 drive ratchet + socket last weekend. Maybe I'll return a few items and get that instead.

Cost me $49.89 for the set.

Here's the socket (still with the nut stuck in it):

Can use ratchet, shifter, spanner with them, so pretty versatile.

If you want to save some money then you can wait and see if we can get it out for you. From experience though, you can never have enough good tools.
