Deep Dished Steering Wheel + Boss Kits: Wheel too close?

Hi guys, I recently bought my first car, a white 96 NA8 and I'm working on removing the human slime =).

After giving the inside and exterior a thorough cleaning and buying new handbrake and gear knob, I'm after a nice dished suede racing wheel to replace the cracked stock momo. I have a couple of questions:

1. If I buy another momo, will I need a boss kit? Or will it just bolt on?
2. If I buy a boss kit, what kind of dish can I have on the wheel before it starts to get too close? I'm slightly undertall and sit reasonably close, so I don't want to have a steering wheel that is too much closer than stock.

Well I guess so. I don't care for form over function, but I think with something like a steering wheel that I will spend most of my time in my car staring at/over/through, I'd like it to be nice. If having a dish would make it worse than stock, then no I won't get it simply because it looks cool.

Depends on how dished, and how much you want to spend. You can also get a slim boss which can cost a lot or a little.

I also plan to track the car when I get it ready. Will the hub affect whether or not I'm allowed to drive it on track? Are they road legal?

QR hubs are not road legal, but quality hubs are safe and you will never get booked for it.

Just in case anyone was wondering, I've been looking at the the OMP Corsica wheel and the Sparco R345. Both are 350mm diameter but the dish on the OMP is 100mm and the Sparco 63mm.

To Answer the OP

1. Yes, any other momo will just bolt on. No idea about the OMP or Sparco.
2. What is too close? If you don't want the wheel closer don't buy a dished wheel.

Buying a short hub just to fit a dished wheel seems kinda redundant.

I recently added a quick release and short boss to my car which I thought would bring the steering wheel too close to me (about 40mm closer than stock) but I actually prefer the new driving position.

I agree about the redundancy of a hub and a dished wheel, that's why I wanted to know about the momo compatability.

In my race car, i run a boss kit, plus quick release, plus 330mm deep dish.
the wheel is much closer to me than stock, and just where i want it.

Im 6ft 2 and the seat is bolted to the floor and against the rear firewall.

For track driving you want the wheel nice and close anyway, you don't want to be driving from your shoulders with your arms stretched out.

Suede will look awesome for about 10 minutes. Sweat, skin oils, soap residue, general hand filth stain it and the constant contact makes it wear quickly. Suede steering wheels are traditionally worn with driving gloves that have suede or leather patches that 'velcro' to the wheel.
