You've hit the nail on the head Sean. Each of us would have different ways of executing the process which in turn would attract differing costs.

Cheers,

Dan,

To really shut them up, you should offer a kit like this... and people can then try it for themselves and report back at how they did!

Looking forward to the owners notes and the dyno work, looks great Dann, cheaper than doing cams etc...... and much more torque. Interested to see how it goes at higher revs also.
What differences do you see for installing something similar on an NB8A instead of a NA6, ignoring the insurance/engineering for a moment?

Different variation of ecu and oil feed, apart from that, nothing.

The owner of this setup has been cruising in it a little, has found a good tuner, and is playing with the tune himself in the idle and cold start portions of the tune, hes just enjoying have a play :)

Im halfway through a second identical setup, instead using a T25 and recieving injectors, BOV and IC straight up.

I like the first version, in that it doesn't have an IC in the front bar that makes the turbo install more obvious, keeps it nice and stealthy and looks to be a great install for street driving. I'd be very happy with 110 - 120kw ATW with a quiet and smooth turbo install that spooled instantly.

Thanks Dann. As a person with enough mechanical experience, but zero turbo experience, this thread, along with the associated theory reading has been very beneficial in providing me the additional small details that make the difference between a crappy result / experience, and a good one.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for posting this excellent guide. I have read it quite a few times & I think it's inspired me to have a go at adding a turbo to my NA 1.6-powered Clubman.

One question though... What are good donor vehicles for T2 turbos? My research shows they were use on Nissan EXA E15ET's but were they used on other production cars?

Regards,

Phil.

The T02 isnt really recommended for most people.

grab a T25 or T28 from a silvia, common cheap, and more suitable for the vast majority of people.

Hi Dann,

Thanks heaps for your prompt reply :D . I'm a newbie at all this & I'm curious ... but given a T02 was used in your build & it gave such good results (quick spool, buckets of torque in the lower RPM's at low boost pressure & without needing an intercooler.... just what I would like) why would a T25 or T28 be a better choice ?

Would a T25 or T28 give the same sort of performance as a T02? I wouldn't want to bolt on a turbo that'll be 'too much'.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Phil.

A T25/T28 will provide boost thats much more sensible, They are larger turbos but both will boost from 2000rpm. The T02 is a tiny tiny tiny turbo, and VERY few people would prefer it in the long run, although just might be one of them.

This turbo is so small its hard to keep the car off boost, hit a bump on the road? Boost. Head check and move your far foot? Boost.

Lean over to scratch yourself? Boost.

Its just boost boost boost.

The T25 or a subaru TD04 are other common options that I think are a little more appropriately sized. They will need an intercooler even less because at the same power level they will need to produce less boost so will run more efficiently.

If you are from sydney I could put you in contact with the gentleman with this setup and Im sure he would be glad to take you for a drive, but honestly this is a TINY turbo.

Hi Dann,

Thanks for the explanation... it makes sense to me now. :D I think your suggestion of T25 etc. would suit me better. I don't want to have to rev its tits off to get it boosting, but I don't want it to boost when I blink either.

I'm off to start looking for one to buy.

Thanks again.

Phil.

Nitro dann you are certainly a jedi-master when it comes to all this stuff.

Thanks for the read. Highly considering this over buying a turbo car.

All dat DIY for feel-good goodness.

UPDATE

So, this particular setup was only tuned on gate pressure (a while ago apparently) of 5-6psi, and made just over 100rwkw, up from factory mid/high 60's.

So thats 50% improvement for 2k and a few hundred more for the pro tune to get the niggles perfected and guarantee safety.
