Vacuum solenoid interchangability

Postby Roadrunner » Tue Aug 27, 2013 3:54 pm

Hi all,

I think the vacuum solenoid that connects to the sensor boost on my car is on the way out, plus theres plenty of topics about the factory one being particularly dodgy on the SE.
I was thinking rather than replace it with another factory one, I could replace it with an aftermarket version.

But are solenoids solenoids?
This is the factory one that is on the drivers side sidewall that connects to the sensor boost and engine:

Iv had it out of the car to clean and its literally a 5v switch on and off so nothing fancy inside.
Looking at the price... theres this option:

Looks like a different mounting point but thats not a problem to sort.

Can I just walk into a hydraulics etc shop and buy a 3 way vacuum solenoid, wire it up and be all sweet??
