WA Pit Inspections - Frame Rail Braces

Postby 3lite » Sun Aug 25, 2013 8:58 pm

Hi Guys,

Have a question on the legalities surrounding frame rail bracing, would the Pit inspectors frown upon say the FM Butterfly brace minus the actual butterfly cross members, or any frame rail brace for that matter?
I want to register my Mx5 but it will take a LOT of work to bend back one of the frame rails to a respectable shape to look at, I was either going to try find a panel beater to bring it back (meaning additional $$$) or bend it back a little and invest in a butterfly brace before I register the car which I was intending to buy anyway down the track....

ANY help would be greatly appreciated as I am getting many conflicting opinions on this.

Cheers!

I reckon you would have to get advice from the those that apply the regs- other opinions do not count -rules are different in WA and some other states for example have a rwc system.

Thanks Morlock,

For those interested I went down to an inspection location this morning and the inspector said dented or flattened frame rails are ok and also Frame Rail Braces are OK aswell as long as the car clears 100mm they won't care

FYI the floor and rails of an MX5 is ridiculously soft. You can easily shape the rails with a regular hammer and even easier with a lump hammer.
