NC Exhaust

Postby cwto24 » Thu Aug 22, 2013 12:16 pm

So the time has come to look at a new exhaust system for my NC. At the moment i only have the Racing Beat CAI.

Plan is to change the headers and midpipe some time down the track after the exhaust. Ideally want it less than 800-900 but with anything imported will be close to that price.

These are the options i'm looking at:

5Zigen: Currently available on JDMST. Looks like a neat set. Read up that with headers the noise can be too loud.

GWR Roadster Q: Probably the most ideal unit and bang for buck but GWR has stopped shipping overseas.

Kakimoto & HKS: for no real apparent reason but i like the look of big tips and the design looks good :)

MX5+: Danny's setup looks awesome but out of my price range when including freight down to Sydney from Brissy :( Plus points is that Danny is an awesome engineer and there are actualy visible gains.

Any suggestions would be great. Currently having massive dilemas.

Depends where you are from, If you were in sydney or nearby Id be glad to build you a custom setup to suit your exact needs, and it would likely be a LOT better value that an imported system. There are people like me around the place, but you of course have to find someone with excellent work and good reviews.

I have the GWR RoadsterSport Q and it's a great piece of gear.
I now have the ceramic coated header on it's way.
Contact Brian at GWR and ask him what he can do to help. He is great to deal with and may be able to suggest a solution that meets your needs.

How did you manage to get the header from GWR? From my last contact with him (only around a month ago), he stopped shipping overseas

I have it consolidated with other goods being shipped via seafreight to the company I work for.

Seems awfully alot of effort to ship an exhaust in :/

EDIT: then again Shipitto seem pretty good value, then again i was just estiimating the weight and size of the exhaust

I'm not trying to boast but when I bought the "Q" last year I managed to land it in Australia for less than A$500.
So definitively worth the effort.

As long as you get the retailer to give you the dimensions and weight, you can get an accurate estimate.

From experience, most retailers in the US are more than happy to give the dimensions for packages. In many cases, a freight forwarder is cheaper than shipping options given by the companies themselves eg Flyin Miata have exorbitant freight costs.

Also, keep in mind, if goods cost >$1000 (not inc shipping) you are subject to GST and customs charges (~15% together overall).

This would have to do with the "fatter" Dollar and the fact that when Arty and I purchased ours about two years ago we took the time to encourage GWR to review their shipping program.

I bought a Roadstersports Q exhaust from Go Miata in the US about 18 months ago. It cost approx. $550 landed here including the two baffles. I got a quote at the time from Brian Goodwin but he wanted too much for freight.

Forget the muffler and just go straight to the headers.
The sound with the headers through the stock muffler is good plus you gain way more from the extra power than ANY muffler will give.

BTW the 5Zigen is VERY boomy and will drive you crazy.

yup, go headers first. One of the best bang for buck mods.
I went RB and I'm really happy with the result
