I hope the price includes delivery. NZ was $2000 cheaper, and that is the lower NZ dollar.

I'm pretty keen on one of these as my soft roader 4wd can tow the 650kg + small tow trailer.

He should get involved in the club, or at least the forums. Would be great to see one of these at the club track days which may well sell a few units.

Most interesting to see will be whether he is able to get it complianced here. I know there has been trouble with the Ariel Atom and KTM X-bow.

keep in mind that the Aus version is following suit with the US "sport" version which is $600USD more than their base model.

Still might not equal the variance between the NZ price but highlights that the 2 are different and I would much rather try and get the sport model through B&T testing.

I still have concerns about emission testing. If you are building the kit on a budget and therefore use the donor MX5 as intended, what are the chances of having a 1.6l engine with 200,000k's on the clock to pass the emission testing required of a new vehicle (as that is what it is)

I'm seriously thinking about the race version, reckon it would be best to use a NB8B as the donor.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

Agreed. NB8A head comp and cams and you would have a weapon.

So gents, here I am. My name is Matt, and I am the owner of Exocet Australia.

To answer a few of the questions that have been asked:

The price of the kit does NOT include delivery. What it does include that is different to Tom in NZ, is powdercoated frame, LED's all round (except headlights) and a fair bit of engineering certification that Tom doesnt have. New Zealand, in terms of getting these on the road, is a helluva lot easier. Their government has worked closely with various motoring organisations to form the Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA)

Our government on the other hand, has basically said here is the rules. Follow them. Sure there has been input from car clubs and the like, but nothing like they have over there.

Yes, we will be offering a turn key car in the near future. I've met with Dann today (very briefly!!) and gave him a quick rundown of where I'm hoping to be in 6 months time in terms of racing development, kits, ect but there is still alot to go through and figure out.

The plan is to have the first Sport model on the road by Christmas, and a track ready car soon after (or before, depending on what hoops the government is going to make me jump through for production) so stay tuned.

Deposits are now being taken for the first shipment from Exomotive (US Distributor) and is 30% (Sport $3597+GST, Race $3897+GST) Race frames will start rolling out mid Jan for those that order now. So since it isn't complied yet, so no use for lighting. Is the an option not to get the optional lighting so save some coin?

Dann bought this up with me today. You can buy just the chassis for 6k. No other components.

one last question. sorry to be a pain in the arse. but knowing CAMS rules. i would say to race or compete in these. it will be a requirement to have side nets. at least on the drivers side. so little tabs will be needed for the lock in points for the nets.

are doing the powder coating in oz and outside oz? cos might be something worth looking to before powdercoating stage.

and any rough ideas on shipping costs?

Pretty sure only 'closed' vehicles are required to have window nets. The open wheelers generally don't have them, although I have seen a few with them.

i'm pretty sure those close vehicles would 'not' have side glass.

most of the time, if you can stick or arm/s outside the chassis, then you need nets.

there is a few glassless/pillarless race cars out there that compete under cams rules. do they need nets? if not, then same should apply right?

i think it might be only high end comp levels that require them. sorry was just thinking out aloud.

The components I'm buying from Exomotive are just cut and shaped lengths of tube. All welding will be done in my workshop here in Newcastle.

When the first Sport and Race frames are finished and ready for coating, I'll be inviting people to come and go over the frames and offer their opinions and recommendations.
