Im not sure if silvia understands the concept of trolling, so for the sake of your engine Ill just point out that emily is joking.

Sorry Em.

Because magnatec costs about $40 a bottle compared to $90 for edge? Because I don't hit the track every fortnight or hit limiter 10 times a day whilst driving about on the street? I had a simple question if you cant provide a simple answer in relation to that question why post anything at all? I want to use good quality oil yes so Castrol edge is going to be better for redline changes at the track but an oil like magnatec is more suitable for the street... and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy so often.

I think you both dont understand the subject, and arent reading what I am saying, just buy the magnatec, and leave it in.

All the time. If you do a track day reduce the change period to 5000.

The links were a great read. I'm due for an oil change and think I will try down a grade rather then up!

Not your fault, answers were in the main patronising and pitifull....
The advice from the link from Mangablue to Bob the oil guy is excellent and contains all the relevant info. - except the local brands available of course.
Hope future owners make it through the drek to that helpful reference

Silvi,
Weigh the cost of an oil change against the cost of an engine rebuild (including the down time, transport replacement etc) and then go and purchase the best oil that you can afford, "you pays your money, you gets your oil"! with apologies to someone in history.
Oil manufacturers get this stuff all of the time, scour THEIR sites, PENRITE, NULON to name but two, and dont even think about not trusting them, it is their business after all.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Just a suggestion ...

Full synthetic, better oil than Magnatec and cheaper too at $41 for 5L at Supercheap now.

The trouble is that with oil there's not necessarily a link between price and quality any more, it's more like a link between price and advertising bullshit. That's partly why this topic is always a minefield on the forum.

Buy a name brand synthetic in the grade mazda suggested and change it and the filter at least every 10,000.

Thanks manga. I notice that HPR5 is the recommended Penrite oil for 2000-2005 cars and after reading Bob the oil guy ,now see the benefit of a 5w oil in protecting at startup where a lower viscosity protects better.
As 90% of wear occurs at startup this 5W-40W fully synthetic oil would seem to be perfect...
....on Special at supercheap for $46 now too!

depending on the amount of wear the engine has 10W50 may be better. but start with the HPR5, and if you have exsessive usage, then try thr HPR10.

there is a few threads on here about the 5W40 syn and 10w30 min oils, and how they relate to eachother. find them. will save time awaiting answers for new posts.
