Which engine oil best for 2002 NB?
Oilchange time again with 90,000km up. Looking for an oil to use that's extra protective for an engine that's dríven sportily but not thrashed -and doesn't cost too much or is often on special.
15-40 is probably best weight for here in Qld. Have been using Edge but have you seen the prices lately? I'd like to change around 8000km if a good and affordable oil would make this economically sensible......

You know the viscousity you need, so what you really want to know is what brand?
To be brutally honest, as long as it's a decent brand (ie: the label says more than just "motor oil") it will be fine.
Castrol are my usual choice, or Motul if it's on sale.

Just out of pure interest, how bad is the Coles/Woolworths branded motor oil?

I would imagine it's probably equally as good, but also terrible.
Look at the cooking oils as an example, you'll see 10 bottles of Crisco all pretty much identical in colour.
Look at 10 bottles of the "home brand" cooking oil, each one will be a different shade.
In saying that, I'm not going to go and risk siezing an engine just to find out

I use this stuff in my car all the time. I swear it adds at least 10 kW.

Re: Which engine oil best for 2002 NB?
Is it bad to use different viscosity oil in between track day changes? Meaning can I use Castrol magnatec 10w40 80 % of the time then when I change oil before a track day use Castrol Edge 10w60 then when I change after track day use 10w40? Or does this cause contaminants in the engine? This is a serious question I am also currently using Castrol edge but its quit expensive and would like to do regular changes 5-7000 km to keep the oil fresh.

The answer is that if you are dailying it it doesnt matter.
Buy a name brand synthetic in the grade mazda suggested and change it and the filter at least every 10,000.
Thats the end of the story.
Honestly, if you wont read what magna blue has provided, thats all you need to know.
