John, i dont believe you need AS1968 approval as that is only required for bike riders on public roads. To my understanding motor racing helmets dont have AS1968 approval but use other ratings (SNELL).

Hi Eric

Long time no hear or see. AS1698 (not 1968) is still the CAMS standard for club level speed events which makes them fine for our events. A full face is now a club requirement for our track days and is also recommended by CAMS for open cars. See this link http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/GeneralRequirements/GQ05_Schedule_D.pdf and check out page 3 (item 2.4) and page 5 (item 3.1 and table row B).

A full face helmet with HANS device is recommended for our club events for anyone with a race seat/harness fitted.

Thanks for the clarification John, from my interpretation AS1698 is a minimum standard required as per level "B".
Just wanted to point out also that many (if not all) of the "A" level helmets are not AS1698 approved but are acceptable for club track days.

Yep, im still floating around working next door to Automotive Plus :wink:

. No MX-5 at the moment but will be behind the wheel of a certain NB track car.

September 9th is the day after Powercruise ends. They do drift demos, among other things like 'cruise' (hektik skid) sessions and powerskid competitions down the main straight, so there will probably be a bit more rubber than usual on the track. Potentially more grip this time around.
