Nahh need to do more than just remove the liners. :(
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Replaced my cup holders with nice new shiny ones. Now the lids are no longer as soft and flacid as FFG (or so I've been told  )

New wheels are on although I only have nasty pics at the moment. XXR 527 17x8.25 +25 offset with 205/40 tyres on.

Image

I will get some better pics soon.

I also replaced my radiator hoses with some bling bling red silicon ones and decided once I was in there to remove the carbon canister thingy ( which is apparently not a carbon canister at all but some sort of fuel vapour thing). Makes the bay heaps nicer.

My daughter helping me. For those that don't know, my daughter has been incredibly sick over the last 1.5years and this car is a way for me to spend quality time with her. She loves helping dad in the garage although doing everything takes so long now.

More updates soon

I've got a few more things done but more importantly there are things on the horizon.

This time I decided to attack the Garage Vary eyelids that I have. Up until now they have been this matte black sort of plasticky finish on them that was showing signs of better times. See below.

Image

So I went down to Autobarn and got them to whip me up a spray can of brilliant black. I chose a crappy day for spraying as it was cold and windy so the paint job came out crappy but with a bit of sanding and polishing I got them to come out great. That was until I dropped one of them on gravel and had stone chips all over it  .

Anyway I decided while I did that to do something I've been wanting to do for awhile and something that Fastfreddygassit has been pushing me to do. I figured I'd open up them lights and paint inside. First step is to remove them from the car. Reading up on this some people said to remove bumpers and other people said not to worry about it. Catering to my lazy attitude I decided not to remove the bumper. Big mistake!!! The lights have these pain in the ass tabs underneath that get caught up and it would really be easier to remove the bumper than try to squeeze the lights past.

Image

Next step is to open up the lights. 22 minutes in 90 degree centigrade oven did the job for me. Came apart very nicely although your hands get a bit sick of being hot while you are trying to pry them apart.

Image

Next step is to remove the chrome insert. Pretty easy as it is just one screw. Also you will want to remove the bits for the indicators from this before painting. They are attached with tabs so fairly easy but try not to use too much force as you don't want to break them. This is the bit you want to paint.

Image

Next up is the paint. I wasn't really sure of the best way to go with this. I've heard of some people that have sanded the chrome, some people have removed the chrome completely, others have just sprayed straight over the top. Also there is some debate about paint type as well. I choose to give the chrome a light sanding and use a high temp satin black paint for mine.

Image

After the paint is dry reassembly is the opposite of disassembly. You will need to put the light back in the oven as before to soften the adhesive and allow it to reseal. You may also want to add more adhesive to ensure a bond. This is what it should look like afterwards.

Image

AWESOME!!! This is what it looks like assembled and with my newly glossy eyelids back on.

Image

In other news I picked up Wazzmans old rollbar today and that will be replacing my current stylebar. I haven't got it on yet but I've started to take the stylebar off and once again my daughter is wanting to give me a hand.

Image

That should be on hopefully in the next few days. I also have in different states of transport a set of matte black stripes (yes meanmx is being striped again), an alcantara centre console cover and door pull covers from redline, carbon side mirrors form omgpham, some new gauge faces from revlimiter. Bit of work coming up but Meanmx2 is taking shape. More updates soon.

Nice pic, Ben.
Always nice to include the young'ins in your hobbies :)

P/s: looking forward to see that roll bar in, tbh didn't want to bid on it since i had a feeling you'd be gunning for it.

Wow!

I'm surprised I've never come across your thread before! This is so clean; fresh as minty chocolate mint chocoballs!

Nah in all seriousness, you've done a great job. Keen to see it in real life at the meets.

After reading your thread, would not mind getting an nb haha!

Keep up the clean work

Thanks man. It's a long way from finished at the moment. But it is definitely getting there. It will be that much closer when I decide what I'm doing with the engine. There is always nice cars coming and going at the meet, so heaps to look at and gain inspiration from. Heaps of ideas on how to spend your hard earnt.

Not much to tell. It's an 86 non turbo 944. It's for sale at the moment but not much interest so far. As soon as I sell it I can do some engine work.
