What is this??

Postby trader » Sun Aug 18, 2013 1:07 pm

Took car for a run around the block this morning after install of m-tune re route and thermostat and on lifting the rad cap it was frothing. Let it cool down then did it again. Froth and no bubbles. Surely it must be air and hopefully not a head gasket - seems to much of a coincidence for that (rotrex also installed but but yet to go to boost).
Any ideas?

OMG...

Use http://www.postimage.com, and choose resize for 15" monitor next time.

Looks like a head gasket, I bet you went into boost. You should be tuning the ecu and getting used to the process with the belt uninstalled before you even consider fitting the belt.

Could it possibly be an issue with the reroute you have installed and have now overheated and warped the head?
I assume you would have noticed if the car overheated via the temp gauge though.

Also Ill point out that the m tuned reroute is expensive, complicated, and there are better cheaper, impossible to F-up aussie options.

Thanks for that Dann - had trouble with image shack.
Not into the ecu yet just started it and ran it with the FPR it came with.
As for the m-tune it was a bugger to fit but hey it only cost me 100 bucks so couldnt complain.

Honestly though, it does look like a head gasket.

Unless it cost you an engine.

OUCH! But true...

I concur with the others - Looks like some milky head gasket badness. :|

Is it actually gooey milky stuff or bubbles like there is soap in there?

Is there white goop on your oil filler cap?

Has any of the liquid levels dropped?

No goo, filler cap clean, dip stick too. This morning I did a compression test and it showed 145;146;150;145. Also did my 1.8 just to check the guage 139;140;142;145. Its only done 31000 so that prooved nothing.
Seems to have settled done now so maybe it was air pocket in the coolant re route.

That's awesome news!

Any chance there was some sort of muck on the inside of the reroute form manufacturing? Worth a flush refill and bleed perhaps?
