Won't be a problem if you set all the coilovers to maximum stiffness for track days normally.

If you don't, set front and rear to full stiff and at least the car behaviour will be consistent, assuming the coilovers are matched front to rear and the springs are the usual aftermarket 6/8 or 7/8 rates.

If its your first day just getting time on the track will see you go quicker during the day than playing with dampers.

To early to start the clubman VS Sprint debate? :mrgreen:

I think it should be 50% Clubman, 50% Sprint and 30% National Circuit

As far as the "debate" goes, I think there was an overwhelming majority who agreed we should run both the sprint and clubamn and not just the clubman, as for the national I think that is another topic again. For the sake of club points for those who are concerned about that, can I make the suggestion that the points could be allocated based on the combined quickest times of both the clubman and that sprint, ie add the best time from each layout for each competitor and that combined time is what could be used for the points.

As for the national layout I would not be that interested myself and I can say imo even in a standard mazda I do not enjoy driving that layout and it can be very tough on the equipment with the sustained high loads on the engine closely followed by huge stress on the braking system. If there are others who do want to try out the national think that would be fine and I would still give it a go however I would suggest that it would only be used for 1-2 sessions...

This is merely my opinion, good luck to those making the decisions :-)

For the National circuit we would lose too much time and only get 4 runs for the afternoon if we are lucky. That and the fact in most of our cars the National circuit would put us to sleep waiting to get down the straights.

I would prefer clubman circuit only as I find it more challenging than the sprint circuit with the extra corner. It seems to reward correct lines better than the sprint which seems to be less technical in that you just bash over the ripple strips at turns 3/4 and 5/6 and stay on the throttle.

I'll get the paper work sorted in the next week or so and drag the car out to give it a tub on the Saturday before and throw the sticky tyres on and swap steering wheels over to be track prepped.

I agree with 'zoom-zoom' most run standard braking systems and I dont belive they can take the constant high speed braking into turn 3 on the 'National'

As far as the Sprint & Clubman layouts are, I'm OK with both, actually enjoy both but if you said preference I'd say Sprint!

Then again, I'm just hoping to be there to run :(

Clubman all the way! Sprint doesn't feel like a real track, too many corners without ripple strips. National is definitely hard on brakes, although the Swift series guys do pretty well. I don't think they have any bigger brakes than factory, but I'm sure they'd use better rotors and pads. Nothing quite to the point of these guys though...

I prefer Clubman. At least until I get a (working LSD) to combat the wheelspin out of Sprint turn four. And even then I will still prefer Clubman.
Re the club competition, after last QR I thought that the Clubman session should have been treated as one round. And the Clubman session treated as a completely different round.
Whatever. It will still be fun.

Coilover is fixed, once again I have full adjustability! :D Turns out the rears were set quite differently to each other, but all corners are stiff-ish again! :)
Payment will be made in the next week or so, helmet and pressure gauge will be purchased next pay week.
Hopefully I'll try and get a minor (If you call a 100,000k service minor) in beforehand as well, have a leaky valve cover gasket :( and also just for ease-of-mind.
Are spectators free at QR? I might have a bit of a fan-club.

I understand the heavier it is, the harder it would be on my neck and more tiring, but thats about it when it comes to my understanding.
I'm happy to spend anywhere up to around $140ishish, if anyone has any recommendations definitely throw them my way!

I seen your car around my neck of the woods, I take it you live in the western subbies. If you want, Saturday mornings I'm pretty much free. If you want a hand servicing your car for the track. Pop over. I've got enough 1600 parts floating around gasket set etc. We can fix all your oil leaks and check all parts. Make sure it's ready for the track.

For what we are doing any quality full face helmet, not motocross - the chin bar sits too far out generally, that meets AS1698 will be fine. If you can stretch to it and you are not using it on bike, a motoracing helmet from Revolution racegear, or racer industries , or other specialist supplier will be better.
