We're working on it, but there's a few things beyond our control that may pull us up short. Time will tell.

Cheers,
Danny

Me too!

Next on the build program were the engine mounts. We started with the right hand engine mount as this is the side that the exhaust has got to make its way down. I selected a Mackay Rubber flexible bearing (A1928) as the core component of the engine mount. It's just a simple design were the bearing is housed in a steel sleeve. Members can then be welded to the steel sleeve as required. A couple of aluminium caps were turned up to replicate the overall length of the flexible bearing so it isn't damaged by heat when other members are welded to the steel sleeve.

A pair of profiled plates were tack welded in the appropriate position on the right hand side of the front subframe. From here members would connect to multiple mounting points on the engine. It's important that members don't take up too much space which could have a negative impact of the routing of the exhaust headers.

The first member is tacked in place.

The second member is tacked in place....

....and then the third and final member is tacked in place.

Fully welded out right hand engine mount ready for the flexible bearing to be pressed in. :D

Ta-da!

Please, more fabrication pics.

How were the subframe weld on plates designed and cut, no way it was done by hand..?

Yep, done by hand. A piece of cardboard, a Nikko pen and scissors FTW!!!!

I needed to keep the ball rolling fast on the project and I couldn't wait a week (which is the current laser cutting lead time). The dimensions aren't particularly critical so they were hand profiled. Yes they cost more to do it that way when compared to laser cutting, but as a critical path item I needed them done the week before yesterday  .....the damn flexible bearings took two weeks to come up from Melbourne and they were in stock!!!

Danny

A 5 inch grinder with a cut-off wheel, a 5 inch grinder, a drill press, a belt sander, a sand blaster and a couple of hours.

Possibly the only reference I've ever seen to delivering a car on time by anyone in the industry!

Fantastic craftsmanship as always. 8)

It comes from working in industries where they have this little thing called 'Liquidated Damages'. :P

Danny

As you know I'm NOT technically minded but following this topic I'm having so much fun and have almost worn Mr Google out!!

I'm also proud to be able to say that I have been looking at THAT NC now for over 3 years and to see it last week and being worked on, well - pass another tissue please!!

I LOVE IT!!

PS: I know how fast the green NC can pass me between turns 1 and 2 at QR, I think when this gets on the track I'll just leave mine in the pits and watch from the guard rails!!

Lol, Yup that one is important , I scan once for basic technical details, scan second time for "liquidated damage" "contact retention" and "warranty period".

Then go back and get serious for technical details.
