Angus' New NA6!

So after what seemed like a very long period of waiting, I finally got a first car, my 1990 Eunos Roadster. I have got to admit i was never keen on MX-5's, my uncle races them but they never really caught my eye, until i test drove one! The guy i bought it off used it as a weekend car so i guess it was run hard on the weekends and left to rot during the week, its starting to show signs of the lack of TLC but nothing too bad.

I ended up picking it up for $4k with 150,000k's which i thought was a bargain considering it has: power steering, LSD, electric windows, and speakers in the head rest. and apart from a respray which is starting to flake off and a new set of pedders shocks it's completely stock!

What was bad:

-Clutch was on it's way out
- Japanese radio
-general lack of TLC
- The last owner dropped his motorbike on the front left quarter panel so there's a nice big dint in it! as well as some chipping and smaller dents.
- No glovebox

So as per usual a 23 year old car needed new stuff put in so i got to work!

First i replaced the head unit to a Pioneer AVH-X3500DAB which ran me $500 on sale:

It's awesome and works a treat!

After replacing the Japanese cassette player I put in brand new speakers:

Then it was time for the clutch, i attempted to have a go at this myself but without a high enough axle stands this was a pain so i had to put it all back together and get it to the mechanics. I got a Exedy Sports Tuff clutch which bites hard but not too hard to be annoying.


And now guess my next project..


Lots more to go but there's a start, i bought the car just over a month ago now so i have been pretty slack in getting this up, Enjoy!

Haha, thought about that but have never been able to bring myself to mount spot lights like that.

I've also thought of a led light bar mounted on the mouth.

Thanks for the Gopro fix clip. If you look closely, there is a very obvious crease where the dent was. I'll leave fixes like these to a real pro.

Not sure if it Eunos ever sold them in this colour but i looked up the colour code online (3L) and it says it's a Mazda colour called SilverStone silver. I know from various cracks in the paint around the car that it has a respray at some point in time during its life

So it's been a while since have posted anything so i thought I would give an update on what's happened since..

a few new things have happened but will come when i have photo's. I thought i'd also fill in people of the goodies i bought it with.

Had this legit Nardi which i think suits the car well


and a legit Mazdaspeed gearknob which just brightens up the interior that little bit.



also has a set of pedders springs and shocks but one day it will hopefully be on coilovers.

I broke the diff but being a Eunos it was the 1.6 LSD so prone to breaking for no reason. took the opportunity to upgrade to a proper diff and got an NB 4.3 LSD fitted by the guys at MX-5 Plus and they did a great job and i'm happier knowing it has been replaced

After i got it back from the shop i put a new radiator in as the old one was showing signs of age


It's a 52mm ASI and is awesome at keeping it cool once it has a decent amount of air flowing through.

i thought i'd fix up the ugly number plate with something a bit nicer, this is the one from omgpham.com and the only real downside of it is that it half blocks the foglights.



I began to hate the lack of quality lighting on the car so i updated a few of the lights with LED's

And then i tried to do what no one should do to an MX-5, put lights on it. I have a long love of rally and thought i might try and bring a bit of that onto the MX-5 in a subtle way.

The attempt with this was to add serious lighting to the mx while not being permanent or require any forming of the body to install. I wanted to keep weight down and make the lights noticeable but not the bar. currently it is mounted on the tow hooks, so it is not permanent. I feel as if it has grown on me and i think it kinda blends in, even though lights on an mx by nature should look bad.

I like the look you have created and if you are doing some open road driving this will really help.
I have been looking at CREE LED lights as spottiies as they are small, light and use little power.
But that is a future job for me.
