The last 12 months and with the introduction of the 'Excel Cup' has seen a marked improvment of the quality and presentation of the cars. I've been watching these 'buzz boxes' now for over 3 years and now to go to a race meet and watch the 'Cup' series, it's really fantastic racing, almost as good as watching a pack of 5's!!

Just great to see MX5'ers now actually racing 'door to door'. maybe many would not have felt confident in doing in their roadsters! I hope it gets going there in WA as well

Difference is i'd cringe when MX-5s start bashing into each other, i'd cheer when excels do it.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

+1
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

It's a little NASCAR out there. No way I would race like that with mx5. Some big damage through the field.
21 out of 33, we really stuff up are driver swap, little bit of a problem with zoomzoom who's quite fit and well I like KFC. Belts cost us. Then I got lapped and stuck behind in a restart. Still getting used to this s#it wheel drive. Pirates crew a soild 14.
The cars are bloody reliable. No problems with it at all.
Looking forward to doing it next year!

In the Excel racing yesterday at FOSC one dropped some oil on the South Circuit at SMP (Eastern Creek), another came along and got loose on the oil and a third crunched into them and pile drove them both into the wall just before turn 5 on the big circuit. Event organiser Charles Jardine was not impressed (better he is cranky with Excels than we mx5s :D )

We had a punch up in the pits I believe on Saturday. All over excel face book
We all got dragged in on Sunday morning and got the law laid down.
I think because the cars are so close. It causes a bit of biff. I've never seen so much damage.
I'm hopeful it will settle down.
I'm looking forward to going down to Sydney for msc next year! I'm hopeful I won't need the side hammer for that event

These are the new HQ's of 25 years ago.......
The rough cars, rough racing and rough drivers were all part of HQ's when they first started. It took a few years, but the category was cleaned up and produced some great racing and engineering.

Well done Toppertee n Zoomzoom. Great effort guys. We, (Pirate's Crew car #34 Buchanan / Howarth if you're on Natsoft) also F'd our driver change with belts, with the all important head n neck supports it is nigh impossible to see the belt buckle you're trying to do up, add the pressure of radio plugs and window nets it can go haywire very quickly. Having said that, the category is very competitive and you can build, enter, fit tyres and run the year for around $6000 its hard to beat for value. I'm thinking very hard for season 2015.

Nigel, I see from the main event you completed 35 laps yet they classified you DNF - all the same great learning curve and more guts than me to mix it with those guys!!

Pirate sent me a text, while I was having lunch at Maleny on the monthly Brisbane Chapter run, so I was able to relate most to those there at our table

Well done Nigel/Tim and Garry/Alan - I feel proud to know you have come from our MX5 track day ranks

Also well done to 'D-train' Dean in his NA running against Porsche Cup cars etc and finishing every race!! Great one Deano!!

Zero00, The DNF's were a computer glitch. I think only 3 XL's actually DNF'd

They are pretty clean here in the MRA. apart from yesterday I haven't seen a bingle in the Excels (they run in the MRA which the mx5s do also). Except for one between an mx5 and an Excel when we were gridded together

Hard to believe you could take an Excel round a track. 2 of my kids learnt and drove the same one for 1st car. Never misses a beat but must be the lowest performing, worst handling , sh*t steering and if you did feel the need to rev the motor the gearbox is so slow you waisted time planting it. No wonder the oldest wanted an MX5. Now I could enjoy the track in 4 wheels. Set of wheels is prob all we would need. Watched the sidecars and MX5s today on the EC south track . They do fine. Std looking one was a bit slower in times but was a lap time event, not a race. Wonder how the std MX5 would go on the GP circuit for a track day.

There are a few standard mx5s doing the Supersprints and they get around fine :D
Look for Guran / Bryan Shedden (and others) in the NSW area of this forum. They do the GP circuit in under 2 minutes. Those sidecars.... yeah wow. Crazy stuff.

Like this! Car 42 that passed me in the video is a stock NB8B, and I'm in a stock NA6.

Not my fastest lap, as I was stuck with R888 tyres. Have done 1:59s consistently with RE55S tyres on the original track layout (they're on YouTube too).
