painted cam cover

painted cam cover or possibly polished, what would be the best type of paint to use, have a mental picture on how I want the engine bay to look, the car is white and I want to stick with black , gray and carbon fibre finish through out the car,its easy to look at various things on the different sites, but once they are on the car how will they look :NA8:

Heatproof paint.

VHT have a range of engine enamel that works well.

I quite prefer the look of wrinkle coat, which VHT also make.

just make sure you prep the surface properly first. Give the cover a massive degrease, and then rub it with a sh*t ton of prepsol

yes think the wrinkled look could be the way to go, guess it would require some sort of primer also heat proof ?

I didn't prime mine, just prepped the surface very well (as above, + a mild run over with a scotch pad to key the surface.)

Just head to Supercheap/autobarn/repco whatever you choose and read the label, it says how to do it, I can't remember it saying primer was required.

Things that heat and cool alot you generally will want THIN coats and only enough to get coverage . Prevents the paint from cracking.

Did my cover in a custom 2 pack blue. Paint shop said no primer, or extremely thin dusting with an etch primer if having trouble getting it to stick well.

I powdercoated mine. It resists scratches, dings etc. more than paint.

To clean before painting or powdercoating try using spray-on oven cleaner & a stiff brush, then hose off.

+1 (Wrinkle Black)

This is the cheapest and fastest way too. Unlike most paint, this stuff works best sprayed on thick but you must bake it to get the desired wrinkle effect so do it in the oven when the missus is out.

Grass looks good too, even consistency, a little too dry but NO weeds. This guy has TOO MUCH time on his hands
