I knew my brake disc's were getting some ripples and a lip around the outside. I had been keeping an eye on it but it was getting serious and they were becoming quite thin. so it was about time to consider my options and replace them. Considering they were original from 98 and i purchased the car in 04, they had lasted pretty well with the abuse i had given them over the previous 8 years up to may 2012.
Given that i drive mostly street with a spirited/ track drive here and there, these were my options.
stock cheap/easy to obtain disc's and pads to match, perfect for the street but how long would they last especially with my current power and future improvements???
slotted/slotted + drill,
within realistic realms of affordability, easy to obtain disc's and pads to match, has a little bit of "look at me" without being too out there, should be pretty easy to live with day to day in traffic etc, better performance, but had concernes as i'd heard that drilled brakes were prone to cracking/shattering under extreme temps/conditions (ie heavy track use etc) unless they are cast like porschse and other exotics disc's are.
big brake kit, (bbk) at $1.3k for the cheap stuff and way beyond for the good/GREAT setups its a pretty expensive option for fixing the fronts but what to do about the rears??? then there is fitment issues, will they fit under my 15's, will they fit if i change my offset etc etc, which pads do i get?? how hard are they to obtain?? are they heavy?? the list of questions goes on and on and on!!!!! cold braking performance.
BBK'S are great for the turbo and track boys but im an N/A (some say girly
) daily dríven (like its stolen
) kinda guy.
All of this did laps in my head for a while, gave me a headache.
Result, 4 new slot+drill with new bendix ultimate all round.
Nice,shiney and stops exceptionally well
