Having had this done if you don't change the ECU then it will not be the same as a true manual NA6. Mine still has the Automatic ECU and as the engine was always going to be swapped out and an aftermarket ECU used I never bothered with swapping the ECU's.

Some info that may help you can be found here http://www.miata.net/garage/auto_2_5_speed.html

Also isnt a auto lower compression then a manual. It is never going to be as the same as a manual no until you swap engines.

Or just add a turbo :)

Here's how she looks right now. The colour looks much richer in person though

Currently we're just experimenting methods. The boot was painted inside using many layers of paint, sand progressively finer after each coat (600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000).

The rear quarters have been painted on the car, with only a light sanding of 2000 grit between coats to remove any junk that's accumulated from the final coat. Instead of like 9 coats on the boot (sanded back heavily), we're doing 4 coats

We're probably going to do the final coat on each today and then wait a month to sand and buff. Only once that's done will we know how to do the rest of the car. The new method (less coats, less sanding) is a lot quicker and easier, and so far looks as good. Dirt is a massive issue when painting outside though, so I'll try do as many of the future panels inside.

The method I was originally using was one for International Brightside paint. The guy at the paint shop told me that International Toplac is the same stuff but just renamed. Unfortunately it isn't, so I decided that instead of using the International Brightside method I'll just paint the car as if it were a boat (per International's instructions). Looks great in person though. So much nicer than the old paint, even though we haven't buffed it yet.

Only other progress is small things like polishing up the "roadster" scuff plates and ordering new "eunos" and "roadster" badges since the previous owner decided to remove them all.

As you can see in the photo the rear garnish is disintegrating, so I'll pick a new one up in the future

Haven't seen this car yet out and about, but I see you are quite close to me. :)

Good luck with the painting, keen to see how it turns out!
