Hyundai Excel are evil and need to be punished

Postby toppertee » Sat Aug 03, 2013 4:09 pm

I'm still an mx5 owner and won't be selling mine any time soon, you are going to have to put up with this post

After getting the s#its with not been able to run my mx5 door to door in Brisbane without getting lapped by super cars, I was kind of pissed off with motor sport and was a at a lost with what to do with racing.

I had a look at HQ racing, saw how many parts where need to run and change my mine pretty quick.

Transams looked really cool, but I don't have that kind of cash any more... Thanks GFC

PSCRAQ was out of the question, balls to getting lapped by cars that are 100km quicker in a straight line than a 1600 NA6

QLD sports cars and sedans same thing.

I had a look at the Excel cup, lots of cars running but.... man I hate front wheel drive and Excels.....

I was looking around on the internet and saw that the excel cup was running a 1 hour event on the 10-11 August, rung around a couple of mates, after having co-drivers going down quicker than $2 hookers, Zoom (I wouldn't do it like that)Zoom, stepped up to the plate and Shane A.K.A. (Blister). Jumped into help.

Straight on to ebay, two hours later, one owner 120kms 98 excel was mine. Two weeks and 70 or so hours later, Busted knuckles, blood sweet and tears.

Thanks to Zoom Zoom, who is going to co-drive and spent plenty of time working on the car.
Shane, who helped out on the spanners, is also going to be pit crew/chief.... window cleaner.

AGI who built the bolt in cage and posted it to me A.S.A.P
Rod Dawson from the excel cup panel, who bent over backwards to help me out with advice and sorting parts.
BOB JANE T-Mart at Summer Park. Getting the wheels sorted, great bunch of blokes.
A1 exhaust, for my side exit....
King springs, for running a set of for me, then allowing me to drive straight down to the workshop to pick them up in the gold coast.
Zoom Zoom sister for working at Repco.... (cheap parts) O yeah!!!!

I'm hoping this should be fun, and at least, when I get my a$$ handed to me, I will know it's the other driver, not a cheque book!!!

PS, Chris needs, to gets his a$$ into gear and gets MSC up here in QLD!!! So I can get some RWD action.

Car looks good. The Excel cup rounds at the MRA at Wakefield get a good following, good cheap and clean Motorsport (unless a certain mx5 is carving through the field .. ).

Luckily we generally have enough mx5s to fill a grid.

Bring both cars down and you could run in both :D

I'll be down for the MSC next year. Mate of mine who was meant to be co-driving in the excel with me is on holidays with his girl friend.... What happen to bros before ho...... He will be co-driving with me. Both of us are really looking forward to it. It will be nice to put names to faces :D

It's a bloody shame what has happened to mx5 racing here is Brisbane. There must be around 20-25 race mx5s sitting in sheds up here not racing (Mine is one of them). PSCRAQ up here seem to think it's the economy.... So they can blame the economy, or whatever they like. But until, they take a good hard look at them self and realise they F#ck it. But running non production sports cars and super cars.... So the average punter can't turn up with their car without getting there a$$ completely kick. (Which is no fun). The racing up here of mx5s is rooted.

Last MX5 day, they came up to me asked if I would race with them, I said no way because of the above. I was told I should learn to drive better. I told them, the keys where in the car and if they could drive quicker I would race with them. No takers.

Before anyone jumps all over me, I told Cal, Henri and Geoff. The same to their faces, I'm no key board warrior.
I also tried to get an mx5 series running up here, I've also so told people at MSC racing I would buy all the gird spots and put the money together to get that running up here as well. So I'm happy to put my momey where my mouth is.

Yes I'm pissed off, an mx5 is such a great little sports car and so much fun to drive on the track, so for now it's a excel.

Yeah the prod sports is a whole other scene, I might have a go one day but certainly not now. You do get to drive some great circuits which would be great. But the speed differential is a major turn off. Yeah you can say htfu but just doesn't appeal at this stage.

I would love to race in QLD at some stage so if MSC happens there I will renew my passport and come north.

HaHa...
Never though I would be racing one. A real bugger to work on that is for sure. We a very lucky with a mx5 been so easy to work on. Balls to this east west set up.

I've had a look at the front running cars, these guys really put there hart and sole into it.
I'm under no illusion, that I will be running at the back of the field.

EXCEL CUP is some of the BEST racing you will see - from cars that started as like $500 throw aways to some of the best presented race cars getting around. 'Pirate' who runs the Corolla GTi at our track days is co-driving that event with Garry Buchanan from Goodyear North Lakes/Lakes Hyundai in the #34 Excel

Nigel, when you stand with a stop watch at Lakeside timing the top Excels at sub 65's you wonder how the f**** they do it!! Like a top non turbo MX5's is only 2-3 secs faster over 2.5km!!!

It'll be difficult to keep track of the car with you at the back and zoomzoom up front haha.

I'll bring my gopro and roll bar mount on sunday to get some sweet excel racing vids.
Cheers,
plohl

I tell ya Shane, 24 Excels at full song is a real sight!! They have to max the series at that and I believe a few waiting to join the ranks as well - so long as all abide by the regulations it WILL be good racing!!

So what are the class regs? Down here they look like they have minimal mods, exhaust and limited suspension.

Rhys

When 'Pirate' was bringing me home from surgery last week every time we saw an Excel he was 'RACE CAR!!!!' hahahaha - now I'm doing the same

The #34 car that 'Pirate' is co-driving is beautifully engineered and painted/signwritten, full professional job, but I'm sure Pirate will make a post and maybe have some pics as I'm hopeless at uploading and resizing!!

Hey Toppertee,
You and I will be popping our XL "cherries" this weekend. As Zero00 said they are great to watch with battles going on all thru the pack so you won't miss out. Go to Youtube and search "XL one hour". you should find some good video on braking markers and lines for corners. See you there.
Cheers, The Pirate.
