How to turbo your NA for $2000.

In SA you essentially you just need to submit the modification form and pass the IM240 test. I've got the form stipulating that and afaik there's at least two legal turbo's here.

Great for me but you will have the worst most unreliable and very fastest (to blow itself up) NA turbo around haha.

Haha, I've been thinking this for a while now ever since Dann started work on Lokiel's car. When it gets a bit quiet at work, I might have to have a long holiday and drive my car over

That's a great idea hah. I've actually already got nearly everything I need.

Back on track, what actuator did you use? I've got 3 here but two are 7psi (off t25 redtop sr and t03 rb25) and the other 10psi (t03 rb20). Without cooler and using just stock injectors I'd imagine I want to keep it about 5.

I used a 7PSI GT2560 actuator, and had no hastles at all. It will probably end up at 10 psi ish after a tune.

The old 4-5psi max for no intercooler thing is based on bandaides. Not proper ecus and dyno tuning.

I don't recall the thread but I'm sure I'd have been a doubter for reasons already stated here...

Doing the sums, even based on your figures and assuming rock bottom prices on all parts I can't see it being well under $1500, the number you mention doesn't account for consumables or time, so again it's unrealistic for the average punter. As I said before, it seems the only way the average punter could do it is to have you do it for them.

At the end of the day it's a reasonable package, but what most people are arguing costs $5k or $10k is something very different to this.

As I said before, it seems the only way the average punter could do it is to have you do it for them.

At the end of the day it's a reasonable package, but what most people are arguing costs $5k or $10k is something very different to this.

I think for a rock bottom $ DIY job he has well proved his point and put his money where his mouth is.
Though without welding/fabrication and turbo skills the average punter would have to pay extra to replicate. But if they got Dann to oversee the project they would not be paying horrendously extra.

My next mx5 project is the same as this but with inconel hardware, full front mount setup, bov, injectors etc etc.

We will see how it goes.

The value here (to me at least) isn't if it costs $1500, $2000 or $20,000, its more about showing the process.

It's be awesome if the owners follows through to engineering and future costs. I did a big post about engineering a few years back, but that was the old system.

In terms of on costs that many of us quote for doing a turbo swap, people may be interested to know the MCM mx5 that was similarly built as a budget banger has recently come across the challenges we expected. 1.6 diff is now busted an they're fitting a bigger 1.8 one. Clutch is also getting soft and it's still not engineered.
